I can sort of agree with that but If you have an owner that wants to spend you spend.
If they resign the twins it will be for one season and we won't know until June or July if they don't retire. Who knows maybe we will be still playing in July. - thundachunk
If the twins have a really good year there is a chance of a two year contract. I am done talking about them that is a beaten subject.
I again repeat Canucks are not rebuilding. Reloading ,retooling yes but not rebuilding . Thats all I am saying |

we all know eriksson is a unique situation.
he's still going to be a solid vet after the sedins are gone - perhaps the only guy on the team over 30 at that point.
i dont think anyone expected the type of regression we saw last season and hope for a few 40 points campaigns over the course of his deal. |

man the leafs signed marleau for crying out loud. i know he can still score, but you need an old superstar or 2 in the locker room
yeah the buds are on the upswing but you dont want the kids to off the rails during a down period |

When they signed Eriksson two years ago I believe there was a different mind-set than what they currently have. IMO they've accepted they needed to rebuild now and thus are doing so through the draft. Hopefully that continues! |

The Canucks need to rebuild, I don't believe they've ever done it before and thus they've never won a Cup, came close, but that doesn't count unless you're playing hand grenades.

I don't know about "most", some are definitely strategic planning. They usually don't start tanking until the New Year though. You need to give your fans something to cheer for at least for 50 games. |

Which is why I was adamantly opposed to our 2017 1st round pick.
We have tried winning with Swedish 1st line players and have zero cups, Gradin, Sundstorm, Naslund, Sedin's. This organization needs to try a different type of star player. |

I don't agree with you there, to me it matters not where the player is from, rather, how talented he is. The comment about if you're gonna keep doing what you've always done is more about the process, if you choose to not rebuild through the draft, ever, you'll probaby continue to wallow in mediocrity.
Many great frontline Swedish players have their names on the Stanley Cup. |

1) I'm always right, to some degree 2) I've never played horseshoes, but I've heard that is also true in that regard. |

i was thinking this could be good for the "sign turris" crowd, but i know the next step of that argument is acquisition cost
and then the next step is "bad draft position"
but there's a lot to like about duchene - BobBot
If folks like speed n skill yes indeed.
If it were EG in a package i could like that.
Nothing against EG but depends on the final package

No it's a team trying to allow prospects to develop.
Edit, in a league like the AHL - Makita

If they start trading away any of the youth they've picked up over the past two years, then you have yourselves some issues as they are no longer rebuilding. You've entered the next phase and you'd better hope the kids you've hedged your bet on are the real deal.
Toronto did this when they traded for goalie Frederick Andersen, they had Rielly, Nylander, Marner and the first overall pick to select Matthews. They traded the 30th pick they got from the Kessel deal and a second rounder. They wanted a solid tender to help those kids.
Luckily they all turned out to be phenomenal kids and their plan worked out, luck, or otherwise, they entered the next phase. - LeftCoaster
That NEXT phase is to get quality vs quantity & fit under the cap.
Thats when it gets dicey & risky. |

Peter Forsberg and Nicklas Lidstrom were the best two Swedes to ever play, six Stanley Cups between them and a wall full of NHL hardware.
Kent Nilsson was pretty incredible as well, in the NHL he had 686 points in 553 games, and he had a 1.24 points-per-game average throughout his entire professional hockey career. Won a Cup with the Oilers in 1987. |

Nah....I don't believe that, they're still gonna suck and they're just buying time for the few NHL quality prospects they have, to develop. It's purely window dressing until they gather more kids and the kids they have picked are ready. - LeftCoaster

So when asked JB said he would like a RHD PP QB if he could have anything.
Any D in the next draft fit the bill?
Btw Dahlin is a LHD
IDK tbh but there will most likely be one their for us but not in the top 3.
Thats if top 3 BPA is Dahlin Svechnikov Tkachuk.
Prolly in order its Boqvist Wilde Merkley for next RHD |

I'll just sit back and laugh(while dying a little on the inside) if he passes up on BPA to draft a RH PMD. I refuse to believe he'd be that stupid though. |

It's just too early to even speculate. No idea where the team finishes(I'm still betting on a bottom 3 finish, but I'm Chicken Little here so take that with a grain of salt). And second, we have no idea who the top 5 prospects will be in the draft.
Who had Nico over Patrick and Makar over Liljegren at this time last year? |

I'd luv it if we swung a big deal at the TDL.
Get another 1st pick be great.
Something like draft Wilde & Wahlstrom would rock my boat. Thats if where we i think we are likely to pick where our range is at come the draft. Other possible combos look appealing but thats just one duo i would be happy with. |
