But it still remains you have to get some pieces from elsewhere - VANTEL
Very true. Drafting is important yes but there are many more intangibles to building winning clubs than just drafting. |

For the draft and develop crowd Bo was drafted in 2013 and since then there are no current drafted players playing on this team. BB and JV are both maybes and EP and OJ are 2 to 3 years away. I doubt JV will be a top 6 . Maybe like Ferarro says a Jannik Hansen type.
By the time all these current draft picks make an impact if they in fact do is 5 to 6 years away. I hope Canucks have a plan B - VANTEL
2013 & Bo is on the team yes
2014 & BB is prolly a sure bet
2015 & JV is making his case
Don't we want 1 player each draft to cut the mustard?
Yes 2016/17 is premature but its to be expected if we have the patience. |

Horvat will be 27 in 5 years but he still is not Connor McDavid or Sidney Crosby. He will more than likely be still a second line center.
The poor selections do make a difference. I am not sold on OJ and JV is also a question mark. It is possible that Benning also created a draft gap. time will tell. - VANTEL
A far cry from the draft gap he did inherit. |

Solid signing - CanuckDon
"This a complete waste of an NHL contract spot, of which teams are only able to hold 50 at once, making them a bit of a commodity. While we’ve argued ad nauseam that contract spots should be treated as such, the Canucks have seemed intent on throwing at last one away each year on junior players (not to even mention the contracts they waste on professional players).
"This is the third straight spring that the Canucks have given a contract to a CHL player that simply didn’t deserve it – the first being their own draft pick, Mackenze Stewart, in 2015, and then free agent Yan-Pavel Laplante, also of the Gatineau Olympiques, in 2016."
"The Canucks tried to force both on to the roster of the Utica Comets at various points, but Travis Green was having none of it. Stewart saw four games of action – with limited minutes – in 2015-16 before being dispatched to the ECHL. There he lasted six games before being sent back to junior, where he had to find a new team because his former one wasn’t interested in able to take him back.
The bolded is encouraging. |

I did not say that did I?
Lets be realistic though JV will most likely be a third line energy guy. OJ may be a top 4 but he is still years away. - VANTEL
I totally agree & if he can be very good at it as in 15-20 goals, not unreasonable, thats a very deep 3 lines. |

What do you do? You play the 82 games, stink it up and continue to draft. When you can dump contracts at the deadline you do that too, what are you expecting? |

I am expecting trades at TDL (those without NMC) . I am expecting waiver pick ups and most of all next summer I am hoping they let the twins walk and we get a younger 27 yer old in Free Agency for the top 6 |

To me the Canucks can't lose here ...if the kids get killed then it's what would be expected ...can't fault them ...if they win the flames get egg on their face |

No question. I truly hope we land a top3 pick, this upcoming draft is looking good and we really need the guy that can step in and be a difference right away. I think you could make a n argument that Bo has done that, albeit in a smaller way than the four you mentioned. 5 out of 6 guys you mentioned are top3 picks, you know where I stand on acquiring those picks at any cost. - neem55
I'm with you if u name the 3 players u like as the top 3? Curious is all |

Just a couple Calgary radio morning guys ...they kinda over did it with the lineup comments |

Exactly. No one wants to draft cam barker, but that may be what we have here. Chicago, Pitt and LA all wiffed on high picks too. No need to look at this as uniquely Canucks. |

Goldobin will never be good. He actually sucks. His skating is so (frank)ing bad. He's Russian. He's lazy. |

Analytics are something that Canucks Army really base a ton of their articles from, and from this, they aren't really wrong. If Canucks did spend a ton of time watching Gatineau, they would have easily seen how good Abramov was, and would have drafted him. Having said that, its pretty premature to see if Abramov is going to be a better pick than Lockwood as neither have seen NHL ice time so its really moot. - Codes1087
Lets hold off til Lockwood is given the opportunity as a go to guy in his soph season at Michigan. I like the prospect of his opportunity to do well. |

To me the top2 are clear, in Dahlin and Svechnikov. After that I think it gets dicey. I like Tkachuck, just looks mean, and I like Veleno who looks like he may be elite. I really think the top5 of this draft are as strong as weve seen in a while. But we will see how this year plays out, we all know how guys play will change our opinions. |

Burmistrov was on waivers last year. He looks better than some of our current players. |
