Stuart is done,
Mitchell and Miller were worse then most of the young guys.
Bouma should be in the AHL.
Rutta and Kempny both look like NHL D men.
Forsling and Franson were more good then bad but both looked just OK at times. Franson later in the game when he was out there to long. Forsling when he was in engaged.
NicK S was the best Forward on the ice.
Hino should make the team, but numbers will be tight.

Knott was Ok later in the game but I'm just not sure he is a NHL player.
Highmore was better then I thought and did not look out of place. Will be solid in A.
Jurco made a terrible pass on the 1st power play but did not let it get to him.
Dauphin looks like he will be a good 4th liner next year.
Hayden is skating way better and I think he should be on the 4th line and not tootoo or bouma.
Kampf showed good size speed dec ,faceoffs. ETC just not sure were he fits but again was better hten bouma

Agree with this. Hayden, Hino and Jurco should all make the team over plugs that can't play as well. Hawks have enough "veteran leadership"...The one guy I would take on as a 5-7 D man is Franson. He actually did a few good things today. And I think there is a spot at D...

1-Keith, 2-Seabs, 3-Kempney, 4-Murphy, 5-Franson, 6-Forsling, 7-Rutta ... The only other possibility would be Pokka. Could they carry 8 and take him? They kinda have to or risk losing him for nothing.

Forwards is where stuff will get tight, especially with idea of keeping people like Bouma and TuTu. Would love for someone who can win a damn faceoff to make the team. Give Kampf a bit more look...think he could be a great fourth line center.

Name any reason for Bouma. Is he good on the PK? Nope, historically one of the worst in the league over the last few years. Is he good at 5v5? Nope, has had a negative impact on pretty much every player on the ice except one year where his shooting % was 3 times is normal one (and he's played with mid-6 quality teammates). Has he been good as a checking line forward? Nope again, he's got terrible transition and possession numbers, even relative to a bad team.

The only think Bouma has going for him is that he's fast and physical and blocks shots, but they have other fast guys who can PK (Dauphin, for one), they don't need dumb physical guys when they could have smart ones that have good shots like Hayden, and he only blocks so much because he doesn't have the puck much.

I get Bouma will probably be on the team, but I'm hoping he's a Mashinter and gets waived because he got outplayed by younger players, as he is right now. It's one game against AHLers and prospects, but it's not like this is all that different from his play over the years. And playing low quality opponents should be all the more reason NHL guys should be cursing.

Edit to add: If he does make the team, I hope Bouma plays the greatest hockey he's ever played. I want him to succeed if only because he's on the team I root for, but I'm not holding my breath either.

Hey, like others have said, it's all about coaching here, look at some of the other Brickheads that have been here and had their trains put back on the track and did ok.
I think we have the perfect 2assistant coaches now who will mix in a nice blend of talent and muscle heads and build a solid team. For some reason Kitchens bull crap stick checking and neutering of Defensemen turned sour. Ulfie will tell these guys to use the body and if ya catch them coming over the blue line with their heads down, clean their clocks! And Kevin Dineen was a hard guy to play against , there was no purse swinging with his style of play.
Tonites game , other to be able and sit down and watch a game , like Pat Foley said means nothing other than to get some guys a taste of the NHL. I think Sat. Columbus wil bring more of their NHL players , I'm just gonna take the wait and see till Oct.1st, by them some of the pack will have separated and could also mean if these young guys are all as good as some say, then Rockford will be a fun team to watch also.

Knott was transitioned in junior to centre and the feet have a ways to go for a big man.

I am gonna come tp Lsnce Bouma's defence based on the fact you taylor your line-up to winning n your division and leaving "impressions" on them and Bouma can do just that...

The young legs always impress early one.

The grinder vets are in stride by the end of December.

Franson a gift goal he didn't even get all of, but that is his strenght.

With Polka I think the only way he make the team is if they're pretty certain he's going to stick. Otherwise better off leaving him in Rockford so he doesn't have to be sent down and go through waivers.

I didn't watch but sounded very encouraging.

So if you had to cut 6 guys from the roster tonite who would they be?

- RickJ

Miller, Bouma, Knott, Mitchell, Forsling, Stuart. Gustav Forslimg looked overwhelmed at times and could've gotten his head taken off by Foligno but he pulled up.

Tonite's performance hopefully begins to take the idea of trading for Duchene off the table. It's a start.

Deal from strength.

I'd part with Hartman, Forsling, and AA of it meant getting Duchene.

People forget that this Matty D can fly, finish, is stellar at the dot, and does most things serviceable or better.

It was nice watching something resembling NHL hockey last night. My impressions for whatever it's worth:

- Schmaltz was the best player on both teams.

- Hino with a great snipe.

- I think we have a d-man in Ruuta.

- Forsberg looked good but, needs to face some real NHL players to see if he's for real.

- The curse of the #17 sweater continues. Buoma was pedestrian at best. 2 hits in over 14 minutes of ice time? Until I looked this morning I would not have thought he had that much ice time he was that unimpressive.

I wouldn't. You're trading three guys, 2 of which are locks for the team and somewhere in your top 6-9 this year, and one who likely figures into the defense at some point this year.

How does trading three cap controlled roster players for Duchene actually make the team better?

Jurco made a real case to be on the team last night. Don't forget Wingels is a good piece as well. If Kero can't do a better job on faceoffs I still say Kampf is a sleeper at center (Mitchell is also good on the dot, but he wasn't that noticeable last night). Hawks HAVE to find a 2nd guy who can win draws.

8 looks impressive. His speed is going to be a problem for teams and I think that's why Q sees Schmaltz on Kane's line. His speed alone will create space for Kaner. Hawks just need a big body on left wing. Perhaps AA slides there or he moves to line 3. Does Jurco have that element in his game to play L2-LW? Hayden is a candidate too.

I am thinking Sharp/AA/Hartman may end up being Line 3.

I feel like the last couple years we keep guys like Bouma, Roz Tootoo, Mash in the lineup and they do not get any better over the year and all in means is we end up as a 2 line team and get bounced. It seems to me that almost every team that has won the last 4-5 years were teams that rolled 4 lines and got contributions from 4 lines. Wiz you know more about hockey then me. But if you had a guess of what a 65 games play Reg season and 15 games in playoffs what would be your point guess?

bouma-Kero-Tootoo 10 goals 25 pts, 2G 4pts
Hayden-Kero-Hino 26 goals 48 pts 6G 11pts.

if you get 16 Extra EV goals in a season that is probably means 6-7 extra wins? and 4 extra in the playoffs is probably 2 extra?

I know people said put Roz on LTIR but couldn't we also send him to the AHL and put him LITR? he still takes a day 1 roster spot that could goto Pokka or Oster?

day 1 roster if it was me before Hossa goes on LTIR.

SAAD-T-PAN
sharp-AA-Kane
Jurco-KER0-Wingels
Hartman-Hossa

then bring back Nick, and 2 off Debrinct, hayden, and Hino when Hossa goes on LTIR,

D:
Keith-Murph
Kemp-Seabs
1 of OST or Pokka and Roz

then sign Franson, Put Roz on LTIR and bring up Rutta and possible forsling. feels like we could have to many RD. I feel like we could end with 5 RD and 3 LD. My 2 cents is Pokka has been better then OST so far.

Been quite some time since I last visited here.

Hope all you ladies and gents are doing well.

Caught most of the game. Rutta was solid. Kempny showing good speed and tenacity. Dauphin IS a Q-type guy. Will be on the roster opening night (my prediction). Forsberg... awesome pick up in a trade.

Looking forward to seeing Murphy, Saad, Fortin, and Wingles

Totally agree on Kampf. He made 2 slick dzone passes that were mostly unnoticeable if you weren't looking closely. He seems to have that gift of hockey intelligence that can't be taught.
For a team of youngsters, they all played pretty well. Hayden and Schmaltz stood out the most as mentioned by many and Jurco made strides to being a possibility.
The young Dmen will continue to develop and hopefully be a strength come playoff time.
