If not winning a battle for a puck counts you are right. He went in soft more than 1 time, avoiding contact and failed to turn the puck. In the offensive zone he is more than fine...if he was anything near good in the Defensive zone he'd be locked and loaded as a top 4 D-man today. Alas, he's not...wonder why? Because he's not ready yet, especially in the D-zone. I think he'll stick as a bottom pair D-man taking more O-zone starts and maybe running some power play. - kwolf68
By end of season Snuggerud could be ahead of Gus on depth chart. I am uncertain how quickly Press and others might progress - like Norell and maybe Dahlgren. Krys could be a fast tracker but like Snuggerud would play one year AHL (my best guess on player development).
Krys is the one to be excited about if he improves enough. Actually keep an eye on their #1 this year. But he is a lightweight in terms strength/physicality so I wonder how he compares to Snuggerud and Gus in that regard.
Ok I will have to learn how to spell Joki hara. And spell check thoroughly. Darn auto correct causes more mistakes than anything else. |

Forsberg is a good goalie. He's not as good as Darling, but when all you need is a backup, he's fine. I wouldn't want him playing more than 25 games. |

Don't think Tootoo sticks even though I love his character - Colbyboy
If DCat is the 13th fwd, he's not in chicago. They arent going to have him on the roster just to sit.
I think Hino played his way into a spot, if he keeps that up, but not on 2nd line. Hayden is the only one who I dont think is a sure thing of the guys in have in the top 4 lines. could see Wingles get the 4th line spot and a guy like Mitchell or Tootoo in the press box (letting guys like Kero and Hayden play in the A nightly).

Give Forsberg some time, it's hard to compare him to any NHL goalie at this point. Also, Forsberg has a better resume at his point in his career than Darling did. I'm not trying to bash Darling, he's a great goalie but it's not fair to compare Forsberg at this point.
That being said, what Forsberg shown us so far has been solid and hopefully he can be a solid back-up. With the high number back-to-back games the team will need Forsberg to step up and play at least 25 games. Crawford has never played more than 60 games so there is a good change the back-up will play 25. |

I think the size and speed of the Forward Prospects was impressive. I also think the lopsided score in that game was a result of 1) sub-par play from CBJ's goalie and 2) the fact that Hawks' camp has TONS of opportunity, while CBJ's Roster is almost 100% set before training camp began. Most of those prospects for CBJ know they are not in contention for making the Big Club this year, and got thoroughly outworked by a group of hungry young players that see a massive opportunity to play in the NHL this year in Chicago. |

People getting back on the Hino bandwagon again? What is this, preseason 2016? He'll be depth kept in Rockford to start guys. I really do want Hayden to make the team and Bouma to kick rocks, but paying him $1 mil I think they'll at least start the season with Bouma on the 4th. Replace Hino with Jurco and Jurco with Wingels in your lineup and that's my squad

This Duchene scenario is similar in fashion to when Kyle Turris and his representation decided they wants big bucks based more on Turris' 3rd overall selection and not production that lasted six months...
And other team's were necessarily lining up to pay Turris a fat new contract that was more on the job training money.
and it looks like so far they were right and Turris is not in my eyes some impact guy, just a getting better all the time NHL with a handsome yet at this junucture salary that he may actually improve enough to earn.
And to Ottawa it was a nice pick-up...it's not easy to get a young centre who has the potential to be a force and fill one of your top three, but I don't think you can make the case that turris is Johansen in terms of physicality and over all prowess.
He cost Ottawa the rights to David Rundblad and a second rounder in2012 that turned out being a Flyer selection of Anthony Stolarz, 23, who has played 30 - 40 games seaspons the last three years in their AHL farm team, but now is out with a meniscus tear.
I just wonder if the Duchene situation ends up very similar...with a move and the player never reaching high impact status.
Maybe just maybe, 1) Vancouver, 2)Ottawa,3)Montreal, 4)Columbus, 5)Carolina, 6)Chicago, and 7)Nashville do have interest in Dutch past the Turris interest levels, but you have to wonder if Bluejackets forward Josh Anderson and defender Ryan Murray is the best they are gonna do in terms of ready to help the Avs return.
I am just not so sure GM Jarmo Kekäläinen is willing to give THAT much... |

Enjoyable game last night and good points all around.
Hino, Forsberg, Ruuta all looked good. Schmaltz is going to get the opportunity to be the 2nd line center. Franson will be here.
Jurco made a nice play from behind the net, but we've seen how he is with the parent club. I know Stan is hoping the strike gold like they did with Panik.
Be interesting to see what lineup they roll out tomorrow night at home against Det.
In regard to Eddie O. Foley mentioned last night at the start of the 2nd period that Eddie had the surgery and now was facing several months of Chemo. Tough road. Hope he's ok. |

Franson, Kampf, Kempny, Rutta and Dauphin are all keepers. Experience speaks volumes.
Kampf and Dauphin give you center two-way depth and speed with good hockey IQ.
Kempny and Rutta should be starting, and Franson is what he is - slow but has good O zone vision and some size on the back end. Forsling not ready yet. Still skates timidly and holds the puck too long.
Baun - same problems I saw in his debut two seasons ago - hands of absolute stone.

He's talking about Gustav Forsling. - L_B_R
Certainly not much can be concluded from one preseason game. I thought Forsberg was sharp, that Schmaltz, Dauphin, Kampf, Vinnie and Hayden stood out among the forwards, and Kempny, Rutta and Franson looked solid among the D-men (none of the blue-liners looked excellent, and Forsberg certainly made them look good on several occasions).
Forsling and Knott both had some good moments, and some poor play. Baun was ineffective, Bouma was invisible, and Miller, Mitchell and Stuart made no positive impression.
It was entertaining, for a pre-season game, and I look forward to seeing the ongoing battles for roster spots.
Mostly, I'm just glad to be watching hockey again!

The bottom six very well could be Hartman/AA/Jurco, Hayden/Dauphin/Wingles with Hino in the AHL. or Even Bouma on the 4th and Hayden and Hino in the A with someone like tootoo in the press box.
I just think Hino looked the part last night, and brings something to a line of Hartman/AA. he will take shots and him and Hartman going forward could cause fits for teams while AA can be more responsible defensively on that line.
A line of Hartman/AA/Jurco is ok, but just seems less fiesty than one with Hino on it (assuming Hino is bringing what he brought last night). If Hino cant keep that up he will be in Rockford sure enough. But today, to me, he looked the part more than a random veteran like Miller or someone like that. |

I wonder if Isles are the #8 because in all likelihood they will be having an opening if Tavares chooses to leave.
