Why do you say that? Because he's 34?
- HonkFortheGoose

Because he'll be 35 before December. Take a look at his large sample size in Minnesota. Before his proper usage and icetime, his offensive stats dramatically decreased. After placing him within an appropriate TOI (and line), he flourished by more than 15 points, with much less ice time on top of that.

Not saying he can't do spot duty. But at his age, using recent trends and following usage is typically a good indicator on what you can expect the following year. Sticking him on a line that's out there as much as Jack will be, over 82 games, appears to be too much for him.

It's still a couple of weeks away, but I'm trying to fill a fantasy league:

https://www.fantrax.com/f...gue/9jvhpbvsj6y19yr9/home

It costs 50 to join, pays out 370/120/50. H2H, Live Draft, lineup is set weekly.

And would you consider any of Minny's centers to be on the same level as Jack? Could his lack of production also been in part because the players he was playing with?

(I'm not trying to say he can for sure do it, just kind of playing devil's advocate here).

Jack is gonna be double shifted at times, i think.

If the 4th line is ERod-Larsson-Fasching,

I think sometimes you'll see him go with ERod and Fasching just to keep the opposing teams honest, and give his linemates a breather

Of course not. He's the best center on both teams, that much is certain. But this isn't really a discussion of production as it is of Pominville keeping up and being able to compete at a high level.

We all know players, as they get older, the vast majority need reduced ice time to be effective. Pommer played with Parise, Granlund and Neiderreiter for the most time in 15-16. No slouches. He had a career low 32 (I think) points. Last year, new coach, less ATOI, lower line, lesser players (Zucker and Haula) and Pommer produced 15 more points.

I think this is a similar case to Vanek. Put him in the right situations and he'll produce. Stick him on the top line and he's just a sub par piece.

Doubt he makes it over better skaters like Bailey, Baptiste or even Smith.

Jamie Benn used to do that. Really padded his stats, before he blew up.

At least he plays defense. Rather him miss the net than miss his man in front of our own.
- TheSabresTaco

They said he was "walked around" a few times during that game.... From that I thought he had a bad game, guess I was wrong.

2 weeks ago, I was called crazy for suggesting Pommer may get the nod for the second line

Now he may get top line duties

good for him

Like was just mentioned, more than likely he won't be on the ice every time Jack is.

The part that's interesting to me, and I think we need to pay attention to, is what situations he's used in as a whole. He's capable of playing on the PP and the PK. And god knows our PK (based on last year) needs some serious help.

Limiting his minutes may be a tough task if he's used in all those situations.

I have no idea how he played. +/- is garbage, and it's against soft rosters. Even though he was on the top pair. Maybe with limited deployment he won't look so bad.

Tough, indeed. He's probably the 2nd best PK forward after O'Reilly on this team

He was used very sparingly last year during the PK. Of course, MIN has more competent forwards to use during the PK. I'd wager that Koivu is better than ROR, Granlund better than Foligno, Girgensons or Gionta. So, perhaps they get him more involved. I'm curious to see how they decide to employ Pommer.

Me too. I feel like his performance with Eichel last night ended up creating more question marks than anything.

It's not a bad thing necessarily, but it'll be interesting to see how the coaching staff chooses to handle it.
