Thanks. Hope yours was good as well. I will say part of me is concerned Hossa's loss may hurt the room (the example his unselfish hustle was for the younger players on the ice) but I think Toews et al should have that covered. I do like the return of Saad plus Sharp as it may positively impact the room dynamic as well and help offset his loss. I liked Panarin but something changed on the ice the last 2 years - they looked less cohesive and more selfish. Hossa, of course, was one of the exceptions to that. Hoping Saad and Sharp bring some of the old attitude with them and the absence of Panarin will make it less about One Line, One Player, One Bonus..... Get back to ONE GOAL. - tredbrta
I think a lot of the staff/players have been stewing over the loss to the Preds and that is going to help them commit to going the extra mile out on the ice. I think the team front office to the players are good at bouncing back from a tough season. I think back to 2011 they lost to Vancouver in a tough series where they were running on fumes. They followed that up with a better season but a disappointing first round exit to Mike Smith and the Yotes. The Hawks came back a lot more focused after that. In 2016 the Hawks lost, but it was a close series against a very strong St Louis team, a series they absolutely could have won. Last season was the big slap in the face and I don't doubt that the Hawks are going to be down to business from the get go here. The Hawks have smart hockey people in the organization and I think they know top to bottom they need to be better. I think they will be. I'm excited for the new D. |

I really liked the Saad trade. Panarin was tired against the Preds and then went on to the other tournament and played lights out? Be interesting to see how he does this season with the Jackets. But we know what Saad can do and he plays a 200' game and Forsberg looks like he'll be able to step into Darling's role. Wonder if Panarin dresses this evening here? |

Hayden gets a chance on the 3rd line tonight with Hartman sitting and we get to see Fortin on the 4th line. Excited to see how they do.
Lots of forward depth! |

I might be reaching here...
But could it be that Q is seeing what his other options might be at 3rd line RW in a Hartman+ for Duchene trade scenario?

Aren’t they showing the Bruins-Wngs game - picking up the Hawks game when the first one ends. |

I like Hartman but the depth the Hawks have at bottom 6 wing could make a deal possible. Hard to say, but if the right part comes back in return... |

Teams always rotate in and out all the players in the pre-season, especially the bottom 6 guys. The reason there's more vets this game and last is because it's home ice. It's not like they're going to sit Sharp for the home crowd lol. So they have 3-4 spots to rotate in other forwards over the last game. Next away game may not have several of the top 6 guys but they're not likely to trade any of them.
People were saying the same thing about Debrincat not playing the first game and then other people were saying they were show casing Schmaltz for a trade because he played the first game without his linemates - so like everyone is reading too much into pre-season stuff and reaching in general imo. It's natural but also mostly pointless.
Plus there's been nothing new connecting the Hawks to Duchene except Ek so that should immediately make people believe it's not going to happen lol. |

I'd rather have us go after a solid #2/#3 defenseman if we're going to get that cap space. |

DeBrincat with at least 2 bad turnovers so far.
Can't get too high or too low on these preseason games, ya never know, but so far this isn't a performance that's going to help his cause making the team. |

That thought crossed my mind too.
But I don't think anyone can responsibly read anything into this. It's the pre-season. Teams are supposed to give guys looks to see what they have. It's certainly possible that if Hayden (or Fortin or DeBrincat or whomever) impresses to the point where Q feels he knows what he's going to get from them going forward, then, yes, it could lead to a trade scenario opening up. So in that sense I don't think you're reaching at all.
If you're saying that the fact Hayden is playing tonight is evidence of trade talks, then no. |

Oh, maybe that would be the case, just commenting more on that Hartman might be more expendable this year compared to last year.
I think the Hawks need to wait on D, no reason to rush to make a trade IMO. They have a lot of options right now and they might have the right guys already. I'm glad I'm not making the choices on the D, because it will be tough choices. |

All good points. I was just wondering, ya never know. But there are too many reasons to believe that trade would happen, and like I said I would MUCH rather add a defenseman instead of another forward. Unless I see one more bad play by DeBrincat...lol |

I really hope you're right about the pieces already being on the roster and just having to develop....but IMO we need to make an addition to accomplish our goal of winning a Cup. |

You may be right, I just hope they wait and see. I'd hate for them to make a trade they don't need or take a chance on a vet that needs a change of scene and then get stuck with a player who maybe won't pan out. There will be good players available later and if the Hawks are short just one D, they can afford to wait it out. |
