Yes Bennett looked good with Gaudreau. But I don't think that 1 game is enough to demote Monahan just yet.
I still say match Bennett and Jankowski. I don't even care which plays center (although I believe that Jankowski is better suited with his size and two-way play). But when you consider the extra crackdowns on face-offs this season, would having two centres on the same line be such a bad thing.
And if how Jankowski is playing is a true indicator than if gives three potent options. First line as it was last year, 3M line, then Bennett, Jankowski, and Versteeg.
It also give the option of if there is an injury, or another line (for example say Ferland struggles on the top line) then Bennett can easily play up on to other lines.
Three potent, dangerous lines with adaptability then needed. |

I'd like to see Bennett given some significant time with Gaudreau this year, but I'm still not convinced Monahan is good enough to carry a line on his own. - Hunkulese

They are both big body centres drafted in the first round ...janko is just better at protecting the puck and has a better shot |

Obviously Monahan has been a decent finisher so far in his career and has had chemistry with Gaudreau. It's also just as obvious that Gaudreau drives the line so it's impossible to really know how much of Monahan's success is due to Gaudreau. If Monahan is good enough to score 30 goals without playing with Gaudreau, they should seriously consider putting Bennett with Gaudreau. Bennett is a better playmaker than Monahan and I have no doubt he'd also be able to score at least 30 playing with Gaudreau. No one wanted to break up Gio-Brodie, but Gio-Hamiltion turned out to be even better.
If everyone is playing up to their potential, Bennett and Gaudreau give them the best top line. It doesn't mean Monahan is a scrub, but it's hard to make the argument that he's a top 10 centre in the league. Bennett is capable of getting there.
Is Monahan capable of scoring 25+ playing with Versteeg and Brouwer? |

Monahan didn't play his first season with Gaudreau and still scored 22 goals. His point production was down, sure, but he's a finisher. Put the kid with Versteeg and another capable winger (Tkachuk? Jankowski?) and he'd still score goals.
Anyone playing with Brouwer will suffer from a drop in production, he's simply not a point producing or play-driving player. Anyone but Brouwer. |

Hunkanisms.
Monahan sucks and is a passenger.
Calgary Will finish bottom 4 due to poor goaltending, win the lottery but have traded the pick.
Harmonic is 5-6 man and will drag Brodie down.
Bennett is nothing more than a 3rd line checker.
JG is not happy and wants to play in the East.
Gio is too old and should not have been resigned.
Tkachuk had a lucky year.
The Flames will move to Seattle.
Haemorrhoids are how god shows us he loves us.
Brouwer is not that bad.

Monahan was heavily sheltered in his rookie year and put in a great situation to succeed. He played with quality linemates, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he didn't actually take a single defensive faceoff his entire rookie year.
Compare that to Bennett who's been paired with checking line quality players and expected to be a strong 2-way player from day one.
If Monahan can still score 30 playing with Versteeg and whoever, then they need to do that because it sure wasn't working with Versteeg, Bennett and whoever. If Bennett and Monahan both score 30+ this year the Flames should be right there for the division title. |

Didn't monahan play with stajan a lot ?
And didn't Bennett Brouwer and chucky look amazing last preseason
Let's pump the brakes on tbe monahan hate ...his release is elite ...if he had better skating he would be a lock at 1C on most teams ...
I remember last year kulak had 3 points one preseason game ...surprised no one wanted to put him with gio on tbe top pairing
Oh wait I'm pretty sure that was mentioned too lol |

Bennett would be just fine with Johnny, but i think monahan is better suited for that pair. Monahan is an elite sniper and needs a playmaker. Whether that's Johnny, or someone else I don't think it overly matters. Having the best playmaker with the best sniper on the team makes sense though. He doesn't necessarily drive his line, but he is no passenger. When Johnny went down last year, monahan really stepped up his game, and never really looked back.
Bennett needs a sniper. Ferland finished last season playing well on the top line. If he can keep that shoot first mentality, and maybe dial in his accuracy, he could be a good fit on Bennett's wing. We'll see though, I'm not quite convinced that he's the answer for the top 6. |

Monahan wasn't the FASTEST player to get to 100 goals in franchise history, he was the YOUNGEST in franchise history to score 100.
Still a good goal scorer, just not the fastest to 100.
It took Monny almost 4 full seasons, Nieuwendyk did it in his second full season. |

Suggesting the Flames could be better by separating their two best forwards means I hate Monahan? I love how you morons thinks. Always makes me smile.
There's nothing I've said about Monahan that's even debateable. He's benefited from playing with Gaudreau and the Flames have given him an easier path to success than Bennett. How is that negative at all? |

It's 2017 man!
People don't recognize factual statements, they can only conflate how they feel about what you said.
I agree that Monahan and Bennett have been guided down different paths to start their careers. I'm also curious to see more Bennett/Gaudreau shared ice time. This is probably going to be a breakout season for Bennett. It may be with Gaudreau, or without. Regardless, I'm pretty excited to see it play out.

And if Monahan was separated from JG and Ferland he'd be playing team's second lines. Once again being "sheltered". |
