I'd like to see more physical play out of JV but he's looking extremely smart on the ice and has his wheels back. His shot was never in question... it's still lethal.
JV wasn't a defensive liability in his rookie season. He spent a good part of in the offensive end with his speed and a fore check. Last year's set back showed he is only lacking maturity. It's looking like he's over the hump. His confidence looks genuine. His attitude in check. Now he looks like he belongs in the NHL. |

I would have to guess it would be OJ. He's JB's golden goose - SMBDragon
OJ might be one of them even though he hasn't stood out.
JB wants to show some promise so OJ might get that game with vet group. If he proves well, playing within structured game; then, maybe they keep him for 9 game stint assessment. But probably loan him to Salo's Finnish team after that.
These steps helping OJ more with experience in what he needs to work on. What they could have done with JV but didn't have that option then. |

Agreed, his 2 way play was solid during his first year. Would also like to see him throw some more hits on the forecheck. |

His speed and size coming at a dman, makes them nervous. I wonder if he doesn't want to take him self out of the play by laying the body. As of right now, JV and BB have played there way on to the opening nite roster. |

I am a little surprised that Travis Green/Newell Brown elected to go with Edler and Hutton as their two power-play defenders. For me, Michael Del Zotto and Troy Stecher are better suited for the gig. I'd also try to get Markus Granlund into the mix up front.
I am not sure what you mean by this. A personal choice? Edler has scored quite a bit more on the PP then MDZ and Stecher ever have. Hutton had more PP points then Stecher did last season. I am pretty sure JB stated that he wanted a right shot PP QB. I took it as Stecher couldn't fill that role. |

So does that make him Freddy "Jason Vorhees" Krueger then? |

Chaput, Megan, MacEwen and Cassels all played decent enough, showing that we at least have support for our wingers in Utica.

Rodin will make the team. He'll look a lot better playing in a NHL structure with NHL players. |

SO far I do not see how JV and BB are not going to be on opening night roster. They are playing like they deserve to start the year here. OJ should definitely play until the preseason is over and be a final cut. Whether he deserves a reg season trial will likely be determined in the last couple games. |

I thought brisbois had a solid game, subban has great offensive upside use his strengths and get the forwards and get him a solid stay at home d partner to cover and let him loose. I remember rick lanz his strength was rushing the puck being offensive until the coaches changed him and he wasn't near as effective, man that peed me off. - Bettmanhatesus
Yeah thought Brisebois was pretty effective. Could really establish himself with a bit more decisiveness.
Olli was sheltered. Not sure why.
Cassels was pretty nice.
Subban and Chatfield were way way way too busy.
Holm will probably make the team. |

This is awesome to read the posts, sooo Green is already being questioned for his PP choices, Hutton and Edler shouldn't be paired on the PP, unless there are injuries then JV, BB and DD can't all make the team, Rodin should be a lock.

I highlighted the important parts. I'm pretty sure Gaunce even scored in the preseason last year.
They have been good but they have been good against 4th liners and AHL/Junior players. Boeser is heads above the rest of the Canucks prospects. I do think unless someone who needs waivers plays as well as him, he deserves a spot. JV needs to keep scoring in the AHL. |

Yes, BB 6 points in 3 games. And JV has been more productive then DD and SU |

From watching this game. I would like to see a first PP unit of
Vanek (net presence) Gagner (high in the slot) Burmy (right wall) Baertschi (left wall) Hutton (point) |

So your going to put DD on waivers (most likely claimed) then when JV stops producing against NHL players. What do you do then? |

I want to say nothing will surprise me, but I think this would.
I was hoping he'd stand out a bit more. looks okay. maybe he will look better playing with better players. if not, he should clear waivers. the waiver wire will be busy. |
