They need to change the rule so guys like OJ can play in the ahl ...he'll do good in Europe but not the same

I disagree. I think OJ can still prove lots in the OHL, it's debatable that he was London's best defenseman last year let alone one of the best in the league. Until a prospect is doing that, they can continue to develop in Junior IMO.

There are lots of examples of talented high picks going back to junior and being just fine.

Nurse is a pretty good example of that. Josh Morrissey as well.

The AHL is a tough league and I don't think teenagers are physically or mentally ready for it in most cases.

I don't want Upshall brought in but would be surprised if it happens, especially if the team is concerned about Dorsett.

I think there are plenty of grinder 4th line guys available via trade or waivers this time of the year to worry about it.

In the end its OJ is a 19yr old & we all know D take a lot more time to develop. We cannot have high hopes & expectations too soon but let him develop on a realistic timeline. Yes i don't see his going back to London as a hinderance to his development.

Does that mean you have Rodin in the NHL ? He hasn't shown enough for me yet but is really the only guy of the bubble players I'm interested in seeing more of.

Goldobin doesn't look nearly as promising as I had hoped and I've never been impressed by Boucher.

Preseason as fodder for full rosters.
Nothing more so when cuts happen & players sent back to Jr's or Utica etc we can use the last few games for serious assessment & form up rosters fir the real season.

For sure, I don't read anything into his preseason performance so far, Kid needs time. I can understand the debate about juniors vs pro league in europe and likely doesn't matter one way or the other.

Have you heard anything about Brett McKenzie? I'm pretty sure he isn't with the preseason crew but assume he will be at the Utica training camp. I don't think he has been signed to an ELC yet so not sure how that works.

Rodin has NHL skating & Boucher is a one trick pony aka sniper. One gets a longer look to see how his offence pans out & the other is a casualty.

Goldy can skate & can be waived & can replace anything Boucher can do.

Good points ...D are so Odd ...they all develop at a different rate than the rest

Kylington was able to go to Stockton as a teen and had a pretty good year as a 20 year old so my bias is that I like being able to send them

Agree pretty much with all u said other than 5.5/7yrs. He has never played that good to deserve that yet but its if possible he can but thats a HUGE IF at present. He is not a top 2 D nor will get paid for it either.

Heh even next season if OJ doesn't crack our roster going to Utica is fine. At 20 thats perfectly good for him to go thru the stages towards being a fulltime NHLer

It looks like you're right, that he hasn't been signed to a contract yet. I imagine they could ink him to an AHL or ECHL deal if they choose, or he could play an overage year back in the OHL?

He got a bit of first-line ice time at one of the Young Stars games. No one seems super excited about him, but I would think they'll try to keep him around.
