Why do NFL teams invite 100 guys to training camp?

It's just how it is.

With hockey, partly to show the young guys what they need to do to make the jump. How the game is played in the NHL, the practices, workouts and such.

I guess I don't mind what you're saying about the " practices, workouts, and such" but isn't that what rookie camp is for?

We need to develop chemistry asap, so we can hit the ground running.
It's not like we have a lot of room for error

If Moulson has looked good enough in camp that he deserves a shot with Jack, then fine.
But playing guys who we know aren't making the team is stupid, & a waste of valuable game time

Every team does, chemistry can be formed off ice and in practice. Preseason games don't typically have a lot of structure, just getting everybody into game mode.
