would you rather have him or deslaurers? - homiedclown
Is he better than D-Lo? I mean D-Lo is a nightmare with the biscuit on his stick, but Nolan's highest point total was 10...so, not sure yet??? |

As I said before this is a function of salary cap league though. The good teams are always going to have to find guys who step up.
I'm just looking for a little positivity out of you. - Der Kaiser
*deep breath* here we go...
This latest nolan move is a bit suspect and I dunno how i feel about mittelstadt but I can tell you im very confident in who is in charge now. Between him and eichel I have no trouble believing this team is going to be great. The last two GMs were on opposite extremes, we get a bit of both from J-Botts here thats going to be key. We can already see the shift as botterill brought in more value in one off season, specifically to the blueline than murray did in his whole tenure. botts gave up like a tenth of what TM did.
All ive been getting at is neither one of these guys is a miracle worker. GMTM did some serious damage to this team. It is going to take time for Botterill to get this team to where he wants it and its going to take Housley a bit of time to get his players to adopt the system that he wants. We've already seen this a few times in the pre season with Housley barking at the players regarding work rate.
This team is going to score more and its going to be more exciting 5 on 5, thats very good. But i have no illusions about where they stack compared to the other teams. We had a solid off season, a really good one actually. But this team still has question marks on the top pair and in goal and in the top 6. Value moves are good but their impact is really only felt when a true core with limited question marks is established. There simply isnt enough evidence to suggest that we have that even if you did include names that are often criticized like reinhart and ristolainen they're still short at least one guy here. Its going to take some time and craftiness to do this but I trust J-Botts will get the job done. |

Ben Eager's name is on there too fwiw.
If he can fight, hit and kill penalties as you say he probably is an upgrade over D-Lo, you're right. Didn't see that last comment until after, makes sense. |

I hope this is true. But what evidence is there that this will happen? I dont really think we made any big upgrades to our forwards. I guess it will come down how well the players adapt to the new coaching style and how much the young guys have matured. |

I wonder why that is. no fanbase likes admitting the core is flawed, rationalizations are more comforting.
But Risto especially, the question marks are there. because every year new excuses are made, many of them valid but the bottom line still reads the same. |

The fact that we SHOULD have a transition game from D to O this year is the big reason why. We had 0 transition game last year.

nothing to do with the forwards. We couldnt move the puck for poop last year. Antipin, Beaulieu are both capable of that. McCabe will have his role changed as well. Eichel will be healthy. The system is more tailored to that.
They'll give up more chances as they open things up, but thats the risk you take. |

Yea I agree. I just hope it doesnt take until December/January for everything to gel. There has been alot of turnover with new players and coaching staff. I still think we have alot of question marks with the forward group. Antipin is also still just a wild card |

It sounded like things went better for the team in the first 2 preseason games. Guys were (mostly) playing the system and seemed to have some chemistry with each other.
Then Housley switched it up a lot for the 2nd two games and it sounded like it was a trainwreck (I didn't watch/listen to either of those games).
The lineup is for the most part back to the first two games (especially when you look at the top 2 lines).
Like you, I hope it doesn't take too long for them to really get it all together. But the players all have said how much they love this system and they all seem to be buying in, so that helps.
I did hear a snippet of Pominville's interview with WGR yesterday. He said the system essentially is built on speed and taking thinking out of the equation. He said the more you have to think about what you're supposed to do, the slower everything moves overall.
So it sounds like Housley really wants them relying on their instincts and developing chemistry with each other. |
