ya Im not a fan of his either

but for people here who complain about asset management that would be a win from that perspective.

- SMBDragon

it is already a win that a former first round pick that we traded is on waivers, in terms of asset management anyway.

LV is probably wanting to see all of their defenseman play in these preseason games and make hockey trades before they start losing some of their D-men for free on waivers.

I don't want Sbisa back and his contract, and Stoner is a pylon

- Codes1087

If were calling spades, half our d is pylons. At least Stoner will bust someones nose if they mess with our goalie. I guess Pedan does this, but i trust the guy with more NHL xp to do the job.

I would expect COL to take claims on some of these guys. They are in dire need of help, and have already taken on a few scraps in Yakupov and Cowen.

why they picked yakupov is puzzling

Same here, I like Poirier as well
- Crazybagoham

Spooner might be decent pick-up. He is just kind of underwhelming and does not really stick out positively in any facet. Might turn into a good 5-6 guy on the cheap.

Poirier is a bit of an enigma. Had a problem with the bottle which really caused his stock to fall. He has been sober and getting support from the Flames so not sure if any other team would want to go there, partly out of respect for the player and his process. Dude needs some stability.

I think he's well worth the flier for a team desperate to find a skill match with Mackinnon and tonnes of icetime to spare. Rantanen is one, but Landy has never worked with Nate well. Powerplay specialist at worst, defensive liability that gets 40-50 points at best.

Blues are a defensive team. Yak is a defensive liability. I would never say otherwise. If he gets icetime with a player like Mac, I think he can score. The other team will also score.

You don't know anything, you're so wrong and only nucker101 and myself know enough to tell you otherwise. You should actually just stop commenting on this and stick to things that you do know, like...... shiet, I'm drawing a blank here... I've got nothing.....

He's done 'just ok', I don't get where you think he's done "a great job"? He didn't asset manage very well and he picked Virtanen when there were some pretty good kids picked after him.

Brock Boeser appears to be the only pick he's hit a homerun with, we won't know on the others for a few years.

- LeftCoaster

He has slowly done a great job.
The 1st year PO's was ok & it was a turnover roster season.
2nd & 3rd seasons holding onto PO aspirations proved folly.
Still overall drafting has been very good considering everything.
Left with a bare bones cupboard we look good in the next few years & more.
I can agree JB could have done it different but assuming FA gave TL a different mandate who in turn slowed us down which wasted & set us back 2yrs. I'd rather look at the drafts which have occurred & use the present to judge JB. I said before this season & following seasons will be what will decide TL/JB's fate. Grooming TG longer was fine by me & time will tell how it pans out. If anything its TL who will get the axe 1st with JB doing enough & getting better to stick around. Yes i'm the optimist but idk how else to be. My judgement is what happens this year giving JB a mulligan up til now on the previous 2yrs season results. Maybe some wish we tried harder to tank for McDavid & Matthews but that water under the bridge now.

Unlike last season, where I followed mostly one team in juniors(Tri-city) because I liked Rasmussen and Valimaki(who I think Calgary got best defenseman in the draft), I will be following many individual players.
On defense i will be keeping an eye on Dahlin, MacIsaac, Samuelsson and Wilde.
Up front I will be following
Tkachuk, Veleno, McShane and Ketkoniemi(sp).
At this point I would be pretty happy with any of these players and am not to concerned about our draft position, as all look to be either top 6 centres or top pairing defensemen.

- Reubenkincade

I too like this deep draft & whomever we get will help us.
One thing about drafts that goes unsaid is every team can improve not just us.
Winning a draft is the hardest to do & in taking eg OJ vs Tkachuk was not the end of the world nor a fail but just a choice in direction & need. Time needed for that to run its course. The past draft we did excellent & it could be said we got a huge win if there is such a thing.

That's a complete myth...there's been smaller skilled successful players playing in the league since I was a kid and it's still happening today.
- LeftCoaster

Very true but not many r striking gold. Ronning was our best to date imo

I'm not a big fan of taking chances on guys like him in the first round unless they're super ultra-skilled, I personally would have waited until the second or third round and would have taken Lind ahead of him.
- LeftCoaster

We were not in a position with a deep and established roster to pick a Yamamoto.
BPA & needs dictate our drafts til we r competitive once again.
Every draft that passes can be a would coulda shoulda story for nearly any team.
I rather live with what happened & give it some time. Its rare that we can be excited about prospects considering how many duds old regimes picked or traded picks.

Hextall had to clean up Holmgren's mess, defense rebuild took awhile.
- LeftCoaster

U could interchange with JB & MG & describes us without our better results in the seasons u refer to. Our d pool though is in need of more talent.

I had a massive freakout when Gillis drafted Shinkaruk with Shea Theodore still on the board.
