this team can never move on from our players - bloody ring of honor - CanuckDon
from 2012/2013 to essentially 2016/2017, this team followed the leafs model by essentially doing exactly what we all criticized them for doing for so long, which is not being to able to recognize when a team needs a rebuild, and hanging on to players far beyond when we should. |

I agree to an extent. Benning has been in charge long enough to be judged, but Gillis's drafting certainly caused some of his moves. Perhaps the management should be compared to other teams managment groups and not Gillis. - CanuckDon
What's been the one consistent through all of this drafting abyss?

Or option 4, they play out the contacts. End of story.
It really depends on whether last season was a blip or another year of obvious decline. - Marwood
they were never supposed to be top 6 let alone first line players in the last 2 years of their contract.
just like a lot of the players on the team, their collective suckage makes everyone look suckier individually. |

Despite his title he hasn't been in charge of drafting for a long time, they should get rid of him, but he's not "the" problem. |

i'd agree with that.
my frustration/anger (that i thought i buried a year or 2 ago) was the team (aq, linden, benning) refused to see the need for a rebuild.
i'm not scotty bowman, but jebus christ it was patently obvious after 2012.
the inability to recognize the need for a rebuild was a bigger mistake than mg's moves. - RealityChecker
I wouldnt say 2012 was the year needed for a rebuild, but definitely needed to start looking ahead. They doubled down on the core, won a second presidents trophy but should've sold high in order to maintain success. Tough position to be in, but it was definitely frustrating to not shuffle the deck a bit |

to go to 7 games in the Stanley cup final in 2011, and to be pushed around like they were in that final game, everyone knew that a bounce back year was going to be insanely difficult with the same group of guys. I would have been completely open if they decided to tear it down and rebuild after that cup run |

The Sharks are where the Canucks were at the end of 2012, Thornton is 38, Pavelski is 33, Burns is in his 30's.....but most teams never see it, they just keep hanging on. |

Old Ronny was head of scouting from 2000-2012. Since 2012 he's been the head of amateur scouting. His ineptness will be felt for centuries to come.
Here's a fun article. You should get your full does of morning hate after giving it a look-over.

i meant after the 2012 playoffs.
even with a healthy daniel, that team was not going to win in the playoffs.
i can understand the perspective of being on the inside and feeling so close to the goal.
as an outsider, even with the strong regular season, it felt that the team was sliding away.
the timing could have been so good to trade schneider and kesler.
anyway, it's easy for me (us) to say tear it down in summer 2012 but not so easy when your dealing with decisions that have multiple million dollar ramifications. |

Losing in 5 games as the #1 seed to LA after the 2012 season was the right time to shake it up, not after 2011 Game 7 IMO. You have reasonable expectations to get back to the top (which the second #1 seed confirmed), but a poor showing in the playoffs is when they should've reviewed a small step back to regroup |

I've gone straight to CaptEO about this while our Refs continue to eat donuts and play Pokeman. - Marwood

Yup, probably not as bad but close. At least they have a few players under 25 with some upside. Their top 4 is all 30 or older |

Agreed. I remember being surprised they even finished 1st, it was nothing like the season before. They were not the same, but tough spot to be in for sure. I am envious that Bowman has made several of these decisions over the years in order to keep the Hawks competitive |
