Top 12?
So you are saying he was promised a spot on the roster... - bloatedmosquito
Yup that's exactly what I'm saying. There is no way he signs here being told he has to fight for a spot and he may be a 13/14th forward or play in the AHL. |

tempting to play him....but I think his minutes will be low on the big club. Better to play him in ahl and be a call up.
Unless he manages to bump someone from top 6 down to 7-8 spot - SMBDragon
TG said in last press conference he was pleasantly surprised by Chatfield but sees him learning pro game in Utica first. Though I'd add, if anyone has a chance to stick when injuries hit, he sure is making a good statement to have a Stecher like season. |

Yeah, I hope JB didn't spend $2.6M on a bench warmer. |

Here's hoping with figures crossed that JB can get something for him at the TDL |

I think this will be a good season to judge the quality of JB's management. He's not a rookie GM anymore. He's establish and should feel comfortable in his position on this team and in the league. Loads of time to develop a good plan and vision for his team.
Let's see how he does. |

I think next season is a better season. Depsite this being his 4th (I think) season, you have to remember that he came in and was handed an old, tired, full of NMC/NTC roster. When the Sedins are gone next year, I think that is the best season to judge his moves/drafting/signings. |

Wow that is one sarcastic grade A troll piece. Sad that as fans it's come back to this that the focus is on ridicule to get through the season(s). But can't expect any different. It is the go to move for a Cupless franchise that is used to not being in the mix. |

Only a rookie GM would walk into the tire fire that MG left to fix it knowing by the time that's done the stink will have smoked you out. So much so, that probably someone else will get to pave the way to success on your efforts. |

This is all BS. If it was all the coach then why didn't he stick around for at least a year to see what would happen. He is saving face by blaming someone who is no longer part of the organization. The guy signed a 3 yr deal in Russia, he missed his momma plain and simple. Tree is a F$&@ing beatch - Kaynine

So I just had a look at the roster that Jim Benning walked on to the job with. And My God was it ugly.
Henrik, Daniel, Kesler, Higgins, Garrison, Kassian, Santorelli, Bieksa, Richardson, Edler, Hamhuis, Hansen, Booth, Tanev, Stanton, Burrows, Weise, Weber, Sestito, Dalpe, Matthias, Jensen, Shroeder, Archibald, Corrado, Welsh, Luongo, Lack (all players played over 15 games) |

No one can judge him for what Gillis left this team with. But he now has moved out all but 4 pieces from that time and has gone through 4 drafts. We should be able to start the judging. I will give him credit though, he has gotten better at trades and signings. He is evolving in the right direction. As for the Sedins, there are going to be a lot of disappointed people once that signing is done....me included. |

I don't know why he's been assured anything, he hasn't done poop in the first few games - other than looking old and slow as fawk.
But you're probably right, he'll play the full year, top minutes, gifted PP time, won't sit despite slumps, nothing but contradictions on this team! - Brooks_Light
Vanek consistently breaks 40 pts/yr no matter where he plays...Archibald is going to do that? |

I think Vanek was brought in to be traded at the Deadline for sure. He's on a 1 year deal, he had a poor season last year as well. This is no reclamation project by JB, he feels like some of the kids just aren't there yet and Vanek is the insurance. Anyone who's contract expires after this season will be in play at the deadline. The Maple Leafs did this just before getting Matthews, they traded a lot of players for picks in a decently stocked draft. By most accounts this years draft will have a lot more skill so if we can acquire more picks we can move the rebuild forward. Most of all this year I am excited to watch a more entertaining style of game. I love watching hockey, but last years games were awful. That was a guy coaching to not get fired. |

I really hope they don't. They will see so many kids flying around the ice this season, and hopefully realize their time is done. Leave on a high note, they did a heck of a lot for this team, signing one more year isn't going to get them any closer to winning a cup unfortunately. |

For those wondering why I preached deployment so much last year, @IgorEronko confirms to us Nikita Tryamkin left primarily because of TOI
Start the day with a little morning hate - VANTEL
At the beginning, the guy came in out of shape and needed to get up to speed in his conditioning and with team systems. In the end he could have, should have been deployed better. But I still think it says something about him as an individual if he still left knowing there was a new coach coming in. Wouldn't most people see where they stood in the new structure, so I believe there was more to his departure than just ice time. |

Don't be too hard on the roster. It was built to win a cup and they couldn't get it done. Most teams that load up for a serious cup run pay for it a few seasons later.
Of course, Pitts and Chi seem impervious to that rule. |
