I feel like this lineup would be a tough matchup for other teams. Logic dictates that Filppula will get more chances offensively on the LW than at center, and his possession struggles from the 20 game sample last year wouldn't be an issue playing with Couturier and Voracek.
Lindblom-Giroux-Konecny
Filppula-Couturier-Voracek
Weal-Patrick-Simmonds
Raffl-Laughton-Weise/Lehtera/Read/Leier - Feanor
That is really the funniest part to me. Everyone acting like it is important to take this burden off of Giroux and that he is old/declining, yet Filppula who is worse, is supposedly going to be fine
It is short sighted, and I believe any actual experiment with Giroux at LW will end rather quickly |

I was very happy to see that scumbag DeAngelo walked by Konecny on the OT goal last night. Just as happy as I was to see him shipped out of Arizona. |

I thought Filppula looked really good on Monday night but I'd still prefer Giroux back at Center based on what I've seen so far. |

I wouldn't be penciling Lindblom into the top line role. He's played ok but nothing that leads me to think he can be a consistent threat on the top line.
The best lineup for this team and depth is Giroux on the wing. |

this is who is in camp as of now. two forwards go and one dman
Sean Couturier
Valtteri Filppula
Claude Giroux
Travis Konecny
Scott Laughton
Jori Lehtera
Taylor Leier
Oskar Lindblom
Nolan Patrick
Michael Raffl
Matt Read
Wayne Simmonds
Michael Vecchione
Jakub Voracek
Jordan Weal
Dale Weise
Shayne Gostisbehere
Radko Gudas
Robert Hagg
Andrew MacDonald
Brandon Manning
Samuel Morin
Ivan Provorov
Travis Sanheim
to me its a no brainer, Vecchione goes to the Phantoms for the season and Read is waived. I would waived AMAC knowing he won't be claimed and keep manning as the #7. Personally I don't want to risk losing ANY defensive depth knowing you have such a young group of dman.
this creates a lot of competition for playing time which is awesome. |

I am fine with sending one of the rookie d men down for a little. Let the ones that remain of Morin/Sanheim/Hagg get acclimated while AMac looks like poop playing to pairing minutes. Make the move when they feel one of the young guys is able to expand their role.
Something else that isn't talked about much is the possibility/likelihood of the rookies being rotated between the Phantoms/Flyers. This isn't a decision that will be set in stone next week |

I think they all earned a place on the team. Hagg has been in the A for 3 years and Morin 2. what more can they do there? |

Agree on the sentiment of Sanheim sticking and going with 3 rookie dmen. I believe some of the rough periods will get smoothed out once all of them get used TO NHL speed. Not a knock on AMac or Manning, but you know what you are getting with them at the NHL level.
Very intrigued by Vorobyov. He still is learning English and playing this well is awesome. I think he has real top 9 upside at center in the NHL. |

Since Sanhiem is showcasing himself well maybe its time to keep him, Morin, and Hagg all with the big club and flip Ghost for Duchene? - MrPerfect316

Healthy Giroux is a better center than Filppula. - Feanor
Healthy Giroux can be a better winger then Filpulla too.
It's not who's better then who. It's about the roster depth. Filppula is a good vet center. He can play a 3rd line type role.
Giroux - Couturier - Voracek
Weal - Patrick - Simmonds
That's a solid top 6.
Lindblom - Filpulla - Konecny
a 3rd line that can produce offense. Takes some pressure of Lindblom to produce compared to playing a top line role. He is also a defensively responsible player so he works here.
Lehtara - Laughton - Raffl
Solid 4th line who can chip in some offense. I see all 3 playing pk minutes. Lehtara is a big body. Laughton seems to found his game. raffl is looking good.
I think this lets you use your best players in good roles.
Weise and Read are extra forwards unless traded.

well I do think they earned the NHL jobs and I really would like to see kids who earn the job get it. I want to see things move forward. and who knows, maybe the youth injected into the lineup helps the team win. |

It was clear they were good enough for the NHL for a while. I guarantee the youth and skill added is going to help them win games, but it doesn't have to be all at once.
If Hextall's whole mantra is to bring them along slowly and put them in position to succeed, I am not sure throwing 3 of them in the lineup, forcing some to immediately play tough minutes, really fits with that idea. There really isn't a guarantee Hakstol would actually play 3 either, so you have one getting scratched. They created this situation when they didn't bring one of them up near the end of last year.

By putting three of the best possession players and the two best centers on one line you create three lines that are likely to struggle to stay in the positive on shot attempts.
Patrick shouldn't have to be the 2C as a 19 year old coming off surgery. |

Agreed.
Center is a more vital position than wing and Giroux is a better center than Filppula.
Now, if and when Patrick is ready to be a #1 center, that is the time to consider moving G to wing. |

Precisely why all the screaming for Patrick. He needs in minimum 20 games on 4th line or AHL |
