That's the thing, JV will be hard pressed to create offense on that line and won't get PP time either. - Nucker101
well i wouldn't say those configurations are set in stone. You could just as easily play him with someone who can dish the puck (don't laugh) like Gagner, Granlund, etc.
i think JV makes the roster at least to start, if he falters, send him down again.

Yeah, I'd keep him up if he gets to play with a more creative linemate(s)
I like Archibald over Dorsett at this point, but just hope Archibald's lack of speed(which he's improved over the years) won't stop him from being a good forechecker at the NHL level.

Dorsett just brings a level of toughness that is known by opponents. He can stop something through intimidation. That being said, I think Archie is hungrier.

Ok, thats all well and good but after 400+ minor league games this should be expected. I am not sure how much that junior level of 'truculence' --- and respect to him for it --- translates to the NHL.

AHL has way more goonery than the NHL, and more enforcers in general that are big boys. It's not like this is CHL video. A lot of AHL teams have at least 1 to protect their NHL club's prospects.

Agree I do skim through posters or at least try to . I am honestly feeling guilty that others have to read our in house bickering . Yesterday was a joke of a day . Not again today. - VANTEL
Yes.
Positivity Saturday
I can walk today, i can even sit up for 15 minute stretches and it appears there isn't any nerve or permanent damage!
I'm looking forward to see what the lines look like in game one!

Like last year, last pre season game means squat. Remember the outrage over Horvat on the 4rth? He actually only spent 3 or 4 minutes with 4rth liners in the opener but people still go on about Horvat being used as a 4rth liner. Even after 81.75% the games he was top 6...
If JV makes the team, he'll get used in different situations pretty quick. Coaches love guys with foot speed that are hungry for minutes. I expect JV will see time on all of the bottom 3 lines this season. Archie doesn't have the versatility to be that guy.

Difference is that Horvat had Sutter/Vey ahead of him on the depth chart at center. The oath to top 6 minutes + PP time was easier.
JV is behind Daniel, Eriksson, Vanek, Baertschi, Boeser, Granlund/Gagner(whichever one is playing wing) for top 6 mins and PP time.
I have no issues with him making the team or sending him down since I can see the positives in making either choice. The only way I'm against it is if he's with Dorsett and Sutter and playing 8-9 minutes per game. I don't think that's the best for his offensive confidence/development.

Agreed, (wow, thats rare on here, huh?) but I don;t see how the best of minor league reputations is better than a good NHL one. In that respect, I think Archie is a long way off of replacing Dorsett. Not to say he is not one tough SOB.

Despite what the "professionals always knows more than us" crowd says, GM's do a lot of stupid poop and a lot of it is obvious from the moment the move/signing happens, it's not just hindsight. - Nucker101
