Hate to say it...But the way Brian Elliott played in this game reminds me of the way he looked in net for Calgary in last year's playoffs.... - Ken Spencer
Some people are calling the Flyers goaltending tandem as the worst in the league. Flyers finish last in the Met and miss the playoffs with just shy of 90 points. Playing Read, Weise and MacD/Manning over Morin, Sanheim & Lindblom all season long goes against the current trend in the NHL which is younger, faster & more skilled. Flyers always seem to be a couple seasons behind and chasing the trends instead of getting out ahead of them. |

I kind of hope to see this Wednesday night:
Giroux - Couturier - Voracek
Weal - Patrick - Simmonds
Lehtera - Filppula - Konecny
Raffl - Laughton - Leier
Scratched: Read/Weise
I think Lehtera brings better skills then Weise and would still be a good two way guy compared to Weise. - J35Bacher
I wasn't impressed by Lehtera in camp at all. I think Hakstol is going to use him as a 5C and you'll certainly see him if one of the centers get dinged and he might be the first option if any forward gets dinged. I'm OK with him in that role. He won't get much going the other way but he won't kill you out there either. I think Hakstol has done about the best he can with his line combos. The top line experiment looks like it's working and will continue. See below:

The Corsi Report
Allow me to introduce what “The Corsi Report” is going to include before diving in. I will be analyzing each of the Flyers four lines and three defense pairs on their games from a corsi perspective. Also, an evaluation of the team as a whole will be done and seeing where things went wrong/well. Without further adieu, let’s get fancy!
1st line: Giroux/Couturier/Voracek
Giroux: 16 CF/0 CA
Couturier: 14 CF/0 CA
Voracek: 15 CF/0 CA
You did in fact read that right, when these three were on the ice at 5v5, they allowed no chances from the Islanders. The first line, which was much maligned when originally put together, just put on an advanced stats show for the ages. If this line stays together — and learns how to finish — we may be looking at a line that never gets broken up throughout the course of the season. Sean Couturier may just be the perfect player to center the Flyers highest paid players. - broadstreethockey.com |

Jaromir Jagr and Keith Tkachuk were drafted in Rd. 1 back in 1990. 27 years later, Jagr will now play on the same team as Matthew Tkachuk. |

It's never encouraging to hear we manage the team with fear. We aren't contenders I think this was a perfect opportunity to take the chance on some young guys. The team as a whole I think looked slower last night than all pre season. They lacked the outlet passing and several times resorted to dump and chase instead of being able to successfully ente the o zone. I thought the kids helped with all that we looked like the rest of the nhl contenders did for a change. How much rope does hasktol and hextall have ? We have a difficult schedule to open 0-5 isn't out of the question. - Tfaehner

Read is on waivers, and the Flyers have five rookies on the roster. |

I think if I started doing my job in my backyard when I was 4, I wouldn't need someone to show me how to do it when I turned 22.
They're surrounded by hockey their entire life. I don't doubt there are mentors and stuff along the way that play an important role, I just have doubts that it has to be some guy that plays the position with you or something along those lines. Danny Briere didn't turn Sean Couturier into the second coming of Danny Briere. - YuenglingJagr
That is not the same though. Hockey at NHL level is much different from any other level. I am someone who has played hockey since I was 4 years old and I still make a lot of mistakes and wish I had people around to mentor me so I could get better. |

Provorov had many mentors last season. Shultz, AMac, Gudas, DelZotto and Streit - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Schultz and Streit I'll give you. I just don't think it was a factor with Provorov in how he played. |

and to be clear, this person could only mentor you and make you better if they were better than you and had much more experience than you while also playing on the same team as you? |

How anyone, including Hextall and Hak, can watch this team struggle to score at ES for the last couple years and not think that Sanheim should be in the lineup irregardless if Ghost is playing or not, is utterly mind blowing. |

Was this done so they have the option to send him down but not necessarily are they going to? |

It was done because they needed to reduce the roster size to 23 and it takes 24 hrs to clear waivers. Would imagine he gets sent to LHV, but I wouldn't be surprised if he stays with the team while in California |

If he clears, the waivers are good for 10 games played or 30 days. They can keep him on the Flyers or demote him during that period of time. After it expires he would again have to clear waivers for them to demote him.

Who decides what constitutes the best team possible? The fans or Hextall? Possible denotes various factors that are involved.

I understand your point and I respect your opinion. My only issue is that Morin's minor issues are break out reads and adjusting to speed and he is third pairing as of now. Being in the AHL isn't going to make him significantly MORE READY. I am taking a leap of faith here in that Sammy was the one being sent back based on what has been leaked out...I just see that as a mistake.
With the amount of penalties being called, the constant need to Wayne to always do the heavy lifting and the amount of guys parking in front of our goalies and never being moved, I just think it made sense for him NOW.
That is not to say I also don't think Sandman isn't ready, but I do see the rationale of getting him ready because he is definitely not a 3rd pairing guy. |

Hextall. Sure there are intangibles and variables involved that us fans don't know.. But when some players clearly outplayed others in camp, yet they didn't make the team, makes you wonder how or why he denotes certain players over others. |

Hextall has the final say but we all have our opinions. As it's turning out, it ain't over till it's over. It will be very interesting to see, if Gostisbehere is day-to-day or worse, which 6 Dmen actually play in SJ/LA. If he misses one game, figure he misses both. I'd obviously sit one of the vets and play the three rookies.
The Lindblom cut I'm OK with. If he's a PPG guy down there, and he did come close with the Phantoms a couple years back, you have backup in case any of the Top 9 wingers don't produce enough offense or gets dinged.
The D is the key though and I want to see Sanheim and Morin in the lineup, separately if the brass continues to play chicken, but preferably on the same night. |

And all the other under-22 year olds are not.
Also, you think McDavid has nothing to learn about playing in the NHL and being an NHL player? |

...but does that mean it has to be defenseman to deffenseman and forward to forward? This team has plenty of veterans, just would be limited on D if AMAC got waived.
I realize you are just trying to walk people back from the ledge but I understand why people are tired of the AMC treatment. He wasn't very good last night. |
