What's the point of lining up and then not running the play - trying to draw an offside? Was the field goal going to be easier from the 1/2 yard line?
- Der Kaiser

All I can say in his defense is clock management. But it's most likely a rookie coaching mistake and not a bad habit until we start seeing it again.

drawing a timeout?

it's the only answer I've got

- Michael Pachla

This might be a little overthinking it, but my thought was that he was trying to draw them offside to get a free play on 4th down. If he's offsides and you miss it, you get the down over again and kick the field goal.

the sabres
prospects

and 10 people cut you down and tell you they stink

it's a great site, when people make it great

some of you posters could learn a few lessons by reading comments 10 years ago

til then cut everyone down as if anything bills and sabres related, STINKS

- homiedclown

for the record, i didnt say stinks. i just said not henrik zetterberg. I only use that word or its equivalent regarding bogosian. if i toss it around to often it loses its value

Basically what I said, some kind of clock management. You run the clock down to 0, don't burn one of your own time-outs, and maybe the opponent burns one.

who knows?

they won, so that's a good thing...as for the field goal, it's never a bad idea to get points while on the road

McDermott is being hailed as a hero today, but he screwed the pooch on the 4th and goal from the one.

100%

He should have gone for it

What I would like it see if that is what they are trying to do it set up at the line and call an "audible", you have a better chance of having a team call timeout if you do that then just try a "hard count".

His guys apparently love him already.

Imagine what they would have done if he would have trusted them to punch it over.

Yeah but Reinhart didn't score and Lenner looked bad on shots from the high danger areas.

While I agree , kicking the field goal did force them to get a td instead of a Tying field goal... which they would have gotten.

I'm truly baffled that Tyrod never calls an audible, ever.

I mean. Even I can see that HB OFF TACKLE Madden play isn't going to work on 1st and 10. And they do. It. Every. 1st. And. 10.

Right they won, but not because of his decision there, because his defense bailed him out.

That's a pretty common thing in the NFL though. The teams that are stronger on defense than offense will always look to have the defense do the heavy lifting.

It's a catch 22. If it doesn't work and we lose because we were only up by 3 instead of 6, he's going to receive all sorts of criticism for not just taking the 3 points.

Our win probability went down with that FG.

Even if we are stopped they would have needed 99 yards to take the lead.
