I don't think Columbus improved much (May have gotten worse.) Flyers trimmed a lot of fat and continue to get younger/leaner. Rangers D is vastly improved, though losing Stepan up front will hurt.
To me, the biggest issue for the Isles is the team defense. They were top 10 in scoring last year, but were also bottom 10 in goals against. That's a big issue and one that I'm not sure they really addressed. - BINGO!
It's being addressed via installing an actual defensive system. No more of the ol' "pass & hope it hits a friendly stick" type of defense. |

With all due respect, Shattenkirk, a very good offensive dman, is not going to be playing with Pietrangelo.
As far as the goals against, the early coaching and 3-goalie fiasco is gone now.
Flyers have a coach that prematurely benched Ghost quite a bit rather than letting him learn during the game(hmm, what former coach also did that to the youngsters in the same division?) I also think Philly's goaltending situation is questionable. |

Yep, 8th most goals against. They need to keep the puck out of their own net. Part of that was the stupid goalie situation, but not all of it. |

A big part of it was not having a defensive system. Guys just skated wherever the hell they felt like. Chasing the puck all over the zone. Once they did create a turnover, they'd turn it right back with a bad pass because no one was actually playing positional hockey. Guys skating around with their hair on fire. Or just lounging against the boards till something happened. |

I think there's gonna be less battle levels and more actual brain power. |

It's very simple. If you play positional hockey, you'll work better and more efficiently as a unit. Arbour used to say, "If you're in good position on defense, you'll be in good position on offense". |

I'm trying to forget about him IHM. I'm hoping he just plays with the box of puppies all year. |
