Did those guys put their players in the box for oh the next 7 games? Of course he doesn't want to see mistakes but it's also part of the learning process. Knowing anything you do wrong will get you benched makes you apprehensive and not aggressive.

Arbour, didn't play let's make a hockey player

Trevor Gillies was right out of the movie, Slapshot.

Yeah a movie star not a real hockey player.

Not only did he make hockey players, he made men out of them.

Pmkidd out of nowhere With a shot to the jaw of 7 or laughing at arbour, I prefer the prior

He didn't even know who Arbour is let alone who told the story,

If he hadn't been such a "scumbag", they probably don't win 4 cups.
- Isleshockeyman

Al understood it was not his job to be buddies with the players. Al did not play games by giving the Vets a pass and the young players a hard time. Al demanded the best from all the players.

OMG IHM you are so right, there wasn't any mediocre accepted with AL. Everyone of the guys who played for him said that he made them the men they are today.

And just like great players there are great coaches and hall of fame coaches. How many of them are there? This organization was lucky enough to have had one and no one since. So we aren't comparing weight to al we are comparing him to cappy cause that's who we had and this group of players had. It's a different world today where everyone gets a trophy and these guys have all been coddled their whole lives and told they are the best. I'm not sure you can be like that anymore I mean torts may be close maybe Hitchcock but it's a different era. Now the original point was we have a lot of rookies and mistakes will happen. Weight won't like them he may yell at them but cappy banished all our youth to the minors and the press box. Al may have told someone their mommy needed to close her legs or bag skated potvin but he sure as (frank) didn't put them upstairs and never give them another shot like cappy did. So maybe weight says poop like that behind closed doors maybe not but the point is the players can still go back out and play and not be benched and that's what we need the most talented guys on the ice playimg for this team. OK, did you read the story I posted about Al and Gilles? Just asking??? There is no nice in Al just saying. Al won 4 cups and everyone to a teammate said Al made them the MAN they are today. With the roster of players that said that I love Weight but we are talking about apples and Onions here. Let's go Islanders but easy on the coaching and the team imho. They can't be compared to the 4 time Stanley cup winners. Not even close.

That's a lot of inexperience on one line. Wouldn't be at all opposed to it later in the season or next year, if all show that they can play together successfully. But for right now I think the young guys should be spread out a little.

Remember the Lee/Strome/Nelson experiment? They tore it up for 15+ games until a certain coach decided to mix things up when his magic 8-ball told him so....

Iā€™m more concerned to see if Ladd shows up & contributes before December.

I think Pulock will find his game. AHL All-Star last season...has the size & shot to become a solid NHL D-man. Maybe some time up with the big club last season would have helped but definitely not giving up on this kid just yet.

If Barzal plays like he did in preseason he has a shot at calder.

I forget the stat, but how you start the season really determines if you make the playoffs. Look at Montreal Canadiens last year. They rattled off a bunch of early season wins and look so so going into 2nd half.

Coaches added, Subtracting cappy, and these young kids this year has made me more excited than i have been years with this team.

I would take the over too. 100 points doesn't mean what it used to since the 3 point games.

I think its something to do with if you are in playoff position by Thanksgiving, but I could be wrong.

Pulock would have been ahead of the game if he got some NHL games last year. I'm not worried about him. He needs to play. The young players have to play.

You're right, in this day and age everyone gets a trophy and everyone has feelings that get hurt if you sneeze too loud. Bunch of pansies coming up, I tell ya. At my last job, where I ran the day-to day operations of the company, I once whistled to an employee standing about 100 feet away to get his attention. Then I motioned with my finger to get into the office as I needed to speak with him real quick. He went to the owner saying he felt like i treated him like a dog. The owner called me into his office, and after he finished laughing, said I should try not to do that again. A week later the owner came into my office and put a dog whistle on my desk and said "You know who this is for". The point is, there are way too many people that are way too sensitive nowadays.

Absolutely. They were thick skinned back then. Upstate made a good point about today's youth being coddled and everyone patting their asses telling them how great they are.
Oh how I long for the days when we could mock, ridicule & call each other a homo with it being a joke, not offensive. Or being able to show up at the office, slap a broads ass and say "Mornin' toots".
