My point is they waived Read because he had virtually no chance of being claimed. Not because he outplayed or was outplayed by anyone. More asset management than anything.
Define past. - mickel25
The point is that the Flyers have shown they're willing to waive and demote veterans with significant contracts to make room for young players. |

Read was the lowest risk and is the 14th (at best) forward on the roster. That's why he was waived. Nothing to do with his possible playing time over a younger player. - mickel25
Leier took's Read spot. |

So him scoring at the AHL level will prove to Hextall that he is ready to score at the NHL level? He already has, btw.
It is literally the exact same situation, the perception is just different because Sanheim scored a few goals and Lindblom didn't. Both rookies have attributes that are missing form the team and have the ability (and deserve) NHL roster spots based on how they played vs. competition. If Morin gets sent down, what are we going to say he needs to work on? (I am going to guess it is whatever Hextall claims was the reason)
The AHL isn't going to hurt any of the rookies they have a choice of sending down. - YuenglingJagr
No, him scoring at an AHL level may not be enough to force Hextall's hand. Him dominating game after game should be. I agree that both Sanheim and Lindblom are in the same stage of their developments. I'd also agree they could improve the Flyers in some facets. But they aren't the caliber of NHL players that Hextall expects them to be. Hextall obviously sees them as very important players for the future and will not risk their long term impacts on the team for what he feels they can contribute right now.

I agree with Hextall. AHL time has never hurt a player. I do feel that Morin should be in the NHL though. - MJL
I am of the belief that skaters' peak seasons occur much earlier than people realize, even for defenders. If the player is not fully acclimated to the NHL by their peak seasons, its a bit of a waste.
People want to be concerned about wasting the prime years of Giroux, Voracek, and Simmonds then the above should also be a concern.
I don't necessarily think it hurts them as setting them back from a development perspective. You just run the risk of them stagnating, and not fully optimizing your asset. |

Watching Weal play last year and so far this year, it sure looks like the Flyers did a solid job in developing him into an NHL forward. Konecny has looked great this pre season also. I think he's going to have a strong season. - MJL
So your point is that good players are good? You've said yourself Sanheim and Morin are "ready" so surely they need AHL time, right? |

You keep making one strawman argument after another. The points I made are accurate. I'm on record with regards to Morin and Sanheim. |

Yeah, I mean, it will be fine. I am not arguing that this is some mistake that will ruin the season. My problem is that it is clear as day that if the roster makeup was different on this team, both players would be in the NHL and in the lineup.
It isn't about them NEEDING to be in the AHL until they fix something. They could easily be in the NHL and everyone would be fine with it, so call it like it is. |

Leier took's Read spot. - Feanor
Read's still the 14th forward though. Waiving him was clerical. They also do not want a rookie D-man sitting. When Ghost returns one of Sanheim/Morin/Hagg goes to the AHL. |

Weal is not a good example here. Riley Cote has gone on record saying that Weal was only sent to the AHL at the beginning of last year due to political bull poop in the organization. And that what he did during the 23 games after his call up, he could have done right out of camp.
I'm also not so sure Provorov and Konecny wouldn't have gone to the AHL first if they were eligible. Impossible for us to know though. |

I don't know where he is physically located, but he cannot play for the Flyers unless he is recalled to the roster.

That's what I meant by clerical. He is "technically" on the Phantoms until Ghost is ready to go. Once Ghost can go they will go back to carrying 7 d-men and 14 forwards. One of the rookie D's will go to the AHL. I doubt Read actually reports to the Phantoms. Only way that happens is if Ghost is out for awhile and they choose not to IR him. |
