It isn't dead. I know people who use the language and even that phrase every single day.

The Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks have made a minor player for player trade.
According to a breaking news report from the Canadiens official website, the Canadiens have acquired 24-year-old forward Kyle Baun from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchnage for 27-year-old forward Andreas Martinsen.

I still think if they put him in the right role they may get enough out of bogo for someone to take that contract. Its a long shot but nothing to lose there. - Sabresfan-365
Perhaps. Not counting on it though. But back to the original point, I dont think they necessarily need to add 2 big ticket D-men to contend. In my opinion, they are two top 6 forwards and one top 4 d-man away from seriously contending. Remember that or d-core is still pretty young, so you gotta hope that they will all get a little better with some maturity as well. |

see i think our forward core could survive if it came up a little short on the wings because i project us to be relatively deep at centre.
Defense on the other hand.. |

Heres how I see it:
Kane-Eichel-?
?-Oreilly-Okposo
?-Reinhart-Pominville
Scandella-Risto
Mccabe-?
I think you hope for something like this to work out eventually:
Kane-Eichel-Mittlestadt
Free agent-Oreilly-Okposo
Nylander-Reinhart-Pominville
Dont care-Dont care-Dont care
Scandella-Risto
Mccabe-Free agent
Guhle-Bogo/Beaulieu/Antipin

We need to know if this core can win anything before resigning anyone besides Eichel. Period.

I think its just scandella in there that doesnt do it for me.
Something like
New guy-new guy (thinking a shut down pair here)
McCabe-Risto
Beaulieu-Antipin.
Maybe one of those new guys is Guhle.

Yea im not counting on Scandella to really be the ideal top pairing guy. Im more hoping that his addition will take some pressure off and allow Risto to be better. Still alot of question marks. |

No. Which is why we need to see what we have in some players before handing out contracts.
95% chance we still need a 1/2 D man |

its hard to judge when you dont have the right guys there and some players are playing in the wrong spot.
We probably still need another guy, but im not sure how much of risto's true 5v5 offence we will actually see when hes still getting heavy D-zone starts and minutes. |

its all still so shaky thats why i went with two instead of one guy. I trust Eichel and ROR to carry up front. Im far less convinced Ristolainen can do all that work for the D-core. |

you're preaching to the choir hear. Im not as big on scandella as most and i go back and forth on risto. Thats why im at two guys, playing it safe here. - Sabresfan-365
I disagree about Risto, but it's fair. He certainly hasn't put up numbers that would suggest he's a #1...
Just think he hasn't ever had the chance to attempt to either given the minutes and overall lack of a partner. Still I understand the quantity of two a bit better if you feel Risto is better served as a top4 vs top2 moving forward. |

For once im actually more concerned with our forward group. Having Pominville or your top line and Pouliot/Girgensons on your second line is a little sketchy to me.
The D is just too much of an unknown to comment on right now. I dont even think weve seen Scandella in game action yet and Antipin is a lottery ticket |

I think the scenario where hes top 2 is one where hes seeing way less of the other teams top lines defensively and a good chunk offensive zone starts. but for that to happen youd need a shut down pair you can trust. That likely means adding two guys in some way. |

I heard there was a rousing discussion about race and politics but I only see hockey talk
P.S. Eichel deal is what it is. I'd rather him have played out the year. How much of a discount did he really take? Kid of silly, if you ask me. A discount would have been 5, 7.5, FFS even 8 per year and I would have agreed.
No way he was worth more than 10 to begin with at this point. |

Jesus, if you flip Risto's O and D-zone starts, plus have his QoC a bit lower... Sure his minutes would go down a bit, but that's more than offset with the 10% more O-Zone starts.
I'm not saying he'll be Burns or Karlsson, but he could be a 55-60 point guy with 12-14 goals and 40+ assists. He'll still see the same PP time and there's no reason to expect that production to go down; the last 2 years he's seen 21 and 25 PPP. |

It's just spin from the agent. "He left money on the table" only because he signed now as opposed to next year when he presumably would've gotten more. It's not that he "took a discount". |
