I'm sorry, I'm just having a really hard time processing a Sabres fan saying nice things about the Leafs and "depth" - even if it is in the context of sorta, kinda lowering the ranking of an individual Leafs player. We are in uncharted territory here.

But I'll respectfully disagree with your opinion for one very important reason: like it or not, Toronto is the centre of the hockey universe - at least from a media perspective.

Laine will have to do a helluva lot more than Matthews to get the same amount of attention.

And I sincerely doubt that the media's opinion of Matthews will be lowered if other Leafs are doing well. They'll just chalk it up to "leadership" and say that Matthews is the straw that stirs the drink - further reason to give him MVP votes.

I just dont understand leaf fans at all. They have Mathews as the third best player in the world and some even predict leafs to win Atlantic with Mathews getting MVP. If you think that is true then you should expect Mathews to get closer 14 million then 10 million.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all.

It's just really weird for me (a Leafs fan) to have a fan of a different team paying genuine compliments to my team.

That's never happened to me before.

And I'm really franking old.
