God I hate your stats Stammer. Even though I like ya.
Why would powerplay points matter less than even strenght points? - Scabeh
Can I actually take a stab at this?
If you're looking at a pure PPG number, is it not easier to score goals on a PP and more goals at scored on the PP/60 than EVN/60. If you play a higher proportion of PP minutes to Even Strength than another than it will inflate your PPG.
I'd like a stat that worked in PPG that somehow took into account the ratio of a players PP/EVN strength time. Idk though, I'm not a statistician so feel free to point out the faults in my argument (obviously) (it's actually really not even an argument). |

So that Ehlers contract... I'm sure that Nylanders agent is not happy with that - lumlums
So the legend is that Gordie Howe was as dumb as a post.
The Red Wings would horrifically lowball him on contracts, which he would sign.
Then every other guy in the league would get screwed, because if they ever asked for a good contract, the owner (of any of the six teams) would say, "What? You think you are better than Howe?" |

We will have to wait and see, Nylander did reasonably well last year, playing on an all-rookie line. The fact that Pastrnak played in the NHL at age 18 had more to do with team situations and philosophy than ability. It would be a nice pipe-dream to hope that the 25th pick will turn out better than the 8th pick - it was a strange draft and if there was a do-over Pastrnak gets picked in the top five probably. I just think Nylander is better - you don't have to agree, nor do you have jump overboard with mocking it. - winsix
I'm not saying he's better (although I think he is I don't know this so I wouldn't say it). What I'm saying is that there is no way you can say Nylander projects to have higher upside/points than Pasrtrnak of a PPG stat. I think that is fair and well within reason. Does anyone disagree? |

i still think they matter, but i could see less than ES.
but when you're racking up PP points as part of a top PP unit in the league, that seems like a good thing to me. |

You're welcome to stab anyone or anything but me or family Rick.
What you bring is completely accurate imo.
But I'm not a huge stats guy, if anything I'm in the "old school" of watching a player play and make my own opinion on the guy.
It's not perfect but it's probably just as flawed as only watching numbers. |

For those keeping score at home:
Career even strength points per 60:
Nylander: 1.84
Ehlers: 1.91
Pastrnak: 2.25
Clearly Nylander is better - Feds91Stammer

Lol, i wrote on the Coyotes board that there were no superstars amongst their young players and they started losing their minds. Apparently Keller and Strome will be better than Tavares. |

I agree - my point is if you're using PPG as a comparison stat, it won't be accurate unless you factor in other variables such as PP/60, Defensive ZO starts, OFzone starts, and quality of comp etc

Who cares what Pastrnak did developing as an 18 year old? It's what both players should/will do in the future that will determine their value. Not their career PPG..
Imo both players should post similar numbers next season.... you can't expect Nylander to have a similar jump in production than Pastrnak did because he's already posting top winger numbers...... while Pastrnak had room for improvement posting only 26 points.
My guess they both get in the 70 range points this season. - Scabeh
I agree with this, which is why he is a better comparable than Ehlers. But if Nylander manages 80 points and he is unsigned, where does that put the signing numbers?

I know you're being facetious because he makes many goals now but... he actually is an insufferable bumhole. Been around him a few times downtown Toronto at some bars.
Biggest NHL d-bags I've had the displeasure of being around in order of utter douchiness:
1) Andrew Shaw
2) Seguin
3) Andre Deveaux (although to be fair I did call him Boyd Devereaux)
4) Phaneuf (I honestly just think he's confused almost permanently) |

As an irrational Leafs fan, way back when, PK Subban walked into the box I was in for a Raptors game. I had been chugging blue koolaid and was ready for him to be the biggest POS alive because...well... he was a Hab.
Anyways, NICEST dude. I snubbed him on a handshake when he was introducing himself to everyone because... RIDE OR DIE LEAFS BABY... I feel like a jerk about it though and even more so after he put up for the childrens hospital. - markmark
He seems like a great guy. Even when he was in MTL - just a little bastard on the ice

Power play stats can be misleading, Leafs were 2nd last year in PP % Boston was 7th (the net difference in PPG was 5 for the year! -big (frank)en deal) A goal is a goal. Gretzky scored, 92 goals in 81-82 - not sure how many analysts were asking how many were on the PP or how many went into an empty net. Who the (frank) cares?

Harder to compare PP points player to player because PP success is largely system based. |

I've never heard anyone say anything bad about a PK encounter. I think he's just legitimately a good dude.
#1 on my list of NHL bumholes, Corey Perry. |
