I generally am. Not fond of people claiming for hundreds of years we ruined them. Sooner or later you'd think they'd be able to step up and help their own. Look at hobema they had to change the name as they had such a bad reputation.

Your view is a pretty simplistic representation of reality and it also rings as ahistorical to me. These colonial figures have a checkered past much like the founding fathers of the United States but my own opinion is that oversized statues of any historical figure, regardless of how controversial belong in a history museum.

European settlers undertook tactics against the native population, that while may have been common place at the time are just impossible to condone by today's standards and to deny or minimise their impact on said population really serves no purpose to evolve as a greater community or as a nation.

While I do agree that moving statues in lieu of doing heavy lifting on serious issues on both sides parts essentially amounts to grand standing, or at least I can understand how some view it like that, I also feel that their removal won't diminish anybodies life in a meaningful way either.
