Its like the "Sabres collapse" headlines were written the second that puck went into the net...You could feel the collective "here we go again" |

This team has no foundation without solid goaltending. They need to fix this first and foremost. Then, a couple of solid veteran D to quiet things down. To me, they should throw this season away in terms of playoffs etc. and BUILD a foundation they can start filling in through draft etc. Eichel is the 1C very few teams have. Draft for 1D etc., but damn, IMO get a goalie so you can not throw away the effort of the other 18 guys each night. **see 10 years of Leaf garbage between having Belfour and Anderson. |

Oh come on he's historically played pretty well in Buffalo and... uh... literally nowhere else. |

I'd consider calling up Ullmark and giving him a start

Not a bad idea.
That next contract for Rhino is shrinking by the game. |

Positioning would be worse but probably a better glove. |

Sam Reinhart is the wimpiest, wet noodle hockey player I have ever seen. He's slow, timid, and loses every physical battle he's in.
The puck hardly moves when he hits it with his stick.
Let's face it, he's a perimeter player who needs the other forwards around him to be better, cannot play center at the NHL level and I have yet to see these wonderful hockey smarts I'm told he has. |

I never thought the Sabres would be this bad. I figured they would be in the hunt for a wild card spot in the last month of the season but coming up short. After a longer look, this team is what it is. No depth up front. Few NHL caliber D men. Goalies too inconsistent
Top teams in the NHL have done well in the draft lottery and need to draft and develop. Over the last 8-10 years the Sabres have drafted Reinhart, Zadorov, Grigorenko, Girgensons, Armia, Pysyk, Kassian, Myers and Ennis in the 1st round. Not one of these players have performed to their draft number. Not one.
Reinhart was #2 overall and it appears he does not have the requisite NHL speed or strength to excel. (Draisaitl or Nylander would look nice) Girgensens will never be more than a 3/4th liner.
All other players have been traded. The only tangible assets gained are ROR and Kane. ROR is a good player but is not a 7.5M player. Kane is a great talent when focused and motivated. He is likely to have a banner year but it appears he is in line for a big pay hike. Can the Sabres afford 9M a year?
The Sabres paid Eichel 10M despite modest stats and lack of arbitration leverage. Okposo 6M should have never been signed. Pominville have average 14 goals over the past three seasons. 5.6M is too rich for that production. A combined 14M for Moulson, Bogosian and Gorges. All three should be in Rochester. That's just bad management
To compound matters, the Sabres rebuild will always be compared to the Maple Leafs rebuild. It sure does look like the Leafs got it right. They are really good. It's too bad. Sabre fans are real hockey fans. They deserve better |

Things people don't want to hear:
This roster is loaded with scrubs and wannabee stars. The only worthwhile players they have are Jack and Risto. Yeah Kane but since we aren't signing him so he doesn't count. Sure he'll likely be the highest point getter but none of that will matter since this years team is going nowhere.
I've never been a fan of major wholesale roster changes. I believe your have to evaluate what you have, what's working and what's not and make necessary changes. We just keep making wholesale changes.
Finally, the tank wasn't worth it. Even if this team "turns this thing around", how around can they get it? Go from looking abysmal to below average is their best hope, and that isn't good enough. We are essentially into year 5 of investing in Jack Eichel. Now I really like Eichel, but we quit on two seasons, dumped everything that resembled professionalism and talent at that time to acquire him and now were headed to our third season with him on the ice and it appears in the short term this may be the worst team we've assembled around him. The real kicker is Reinhart though. He failed to make the team his first year here(which isn't entirely uncommon for a young guy) but he's yet to materialize into anything that resembles being worth tanking for. He just weak and doesn't have any exceptional skills to speak for. He resembles a 20th overall pick far more than a second. He's the type of guy you have to ask yourself if you would want him on your team at all.
Now I know many will say "But Jack, he's so special, you're crazy". Sure and you're not wrong(especially the crazy part), but this is five years of investment. With Pegula's resources we could have done anything different in a half decade. There's a thousand ways to skin a cat, we chose one and found ways to make it as unworthwhile as possible. How many more years will it take from here to get a proper team around him to make it worthwhile? |

It's only 3 games and the Sabres were the better team for one game. But the last 2 games have been more than abysmal. Their heads are not in the game. You would think Reinhart would want to get paid next year but he is certainly not even trying at this point. He pretty much had a point blank chance yesterday but just made a mess of the chance. I feel that it is fitting that my 18 month old is trying to rip my Sabres hat off my head as I am typing this. |

Murray did a masterful job of tearing that team apart.
He did an atrocious job of putting it back together. - BINGO!
