I said this the the other day, him having chemistry with our declining 36 year old players should have zero impact on whether or not to sign him for 6 years.

Has ever worn even a "A" for any team? I don't think he's ever been known as a real leader, he's just a low maintenance vet, like Edler.

known to JB..again that's a sad reason to sign him to a fat contract.

He does score a lot of his goals from in close, but that's the problem. He's more of an "elite complimentary" player that you add to an already strong line/team as a piece to push the team to another level. He doesn't drive play and really make his linemates better anymore.

I had problems with the term at the time.
Since then I'm not seeing any chemisty with anyone so far. I guess the fit here is the biggest problem & the likelyhood he could be traded is slim.

the idea was that we would need a vet presence that can score goals and proven to already play well/know players on the team, mitigating the possibility that he'd be a bad fit with the team and team culture.
I think that's a little bit of a justification.
obv these arguments are not rock solid, but it's better than no reason at all.

if he scored 20 goals last year, there would be little problem with the signing.

- Lu was a HOF caliber goalie here
- Contract was signed when the recapture penalty did not exist
- They got a goalie who should have been making like 7M+ at a 5.3M cap hit during his prime, amazing value

- Nucker101

Yeah.
I remember.
I'd still argue that given all that, in hindsight the Loui contract is more palatable than teh Lou signing.

No matter how we carry on here some things r lacking. Playmaking C's hold us back on scoring & making wingers dangerous scorers. Of the wingers we have none can drive the play. No point threats kills our PP & offense 5 vs 5. No D in the system look to help us either. Its wait for EP & Gaudette to hopefully give our lines more offense.

But the Sedins are going to be around for maybeee the 3rd year out of a 6 year deal, that's just short sightedness if that was a main reason to sign him. Plus their success was on larger ice and in a short tournament, not a huge sample size.

I still don't see him as much of a vet presence, other than games played and being low maintenance, he's never been talked about as a leader in Dallas/Boston/Vancouver.

I just think it's a bit bizarre/troubling that a GM who's considered a good scout and saw Eriksson play a lot of hockey games didn't see the lack of a fit on this roster, both short and long term.

Even if he scored 20 goals last year, I'd still fail to see the upside/value in that signing.

right. so in an ideal world he'd play with Sedin's for a few years and then lead/provide vet presence to some of the younger players.
I have no idea how much he leads, he's a Swede and doesn't seem super vocal. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he can provide this.

JB likes him.

I think he'll score close to 20 and get out of the dog house this year.
in a couple years i could see him being buried.
no bigs.

Btw, Burmistrov's feelings need to be considered. Guy is sitting out a game versus the team that waived him.

Someone needs to think of the emotions

I'd be cool with that. But if TG wants a shutdown line I'd say Eriksson is a better defensive forward than Gagner

fcuk that.
I am over paying big money for a goalie.
I'd rather use that cap space elsewhere.
I'm much happier with a Markstrom/Nilson combo than a Luongo, or even a Price, Lundqvist.

and Eriksson.
