And that has what to so with McDavid wanting out in Edmonton? - LeftCoaster
Not at all. Oilers seem on the rise while we mire in the basement.
But they must be worried a tad there while we take our medicine.
Oiler D bites & our scoring sucks. D don't grow on trees. Our F's give us some hope albeit there is no McDavid or Draisaitl. |

It is the losing, we don't have a Stanley Cup to hold in our hearts as a memory of better times, we have a 40+ year history of ineptitude with one generation (2008-2012) where we were top of the NHL. We don't have the population, history or the type of rabid fan base that cities like Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal do that would accept the type of rebuild that you advocate.
I submit that even if we won a Stanley Cup, we still wouldn't be happy unless we went 82-0 and 16-0 in the playoffs with 0 GA, a perfect PP/PK and our leading scorer breaking all of Gretz's individual season records. We have a huge inferiority complex in this town and we're super hard on anyone that puts on the uniform, is the coach or GM/President, most of the time unfairly. - DariusKnight
I respect your opinion but I simply disagree with your thoughts. Having a Stanley Cup means poop if it was years ago for fan bases like Philadelphia, they have one of the most loyal rabid fanbases in the league but they won't support a team without direction.
I know you think that a rebuild wouldn't work in Vancouver, although no ones ever attempted it, but I think you're totally wrong, and neither of us can prove the other to be incorrect.
I also think the notion that Vancouver has an inferiority complex is something that's in your mind only. Vancouver has a diverse population, unlike any other in Canada except perhaps Montreal and Toronto but they're original six franchises. |

My hope is that Chia keeps overpaying the players McJesus carries and role players. So far so good.

I know it is early but here are a few observations:
1. Travis Green takes no crap. You crap... you benched. I like this.
2. As soon as we are down, we are not going to come back. If we score first, it is a game. If they score first, no one has the ability to tie it up.
3. Luckily we got depth at d. |

Pat Quinn wouldn't work in today's NHL, he wasn't a drafter like you need to be in todays cap world. He was a trader, much like Burke; in today's NHL you have to build via the draft or you're gonna fail. |

I also respect your opinion and I do agree that we have a diverse population, but the problem lies that the vast majority of that diverse population aren't hockey fans and probably never will be. It's not a knock against the team, it's just that the vast majority are from Southeast and East Asian countries and hockey isn't a sport they grew up with. It's one of the reasons why the Whitecaps is going to be the biggest franchise in Vancouver in roughly 5-10 years as they have more universal appeal and the game of soccer itself is universal.
Hockey is, and always will be, a niche sport that is limited in it's appeal and growth because it's a winter sport and because of the violence inherit in the sport. Montreal and Toronto to a lesser extent has larger populations of generations of fans who grew up in the sport and season ticket bases that have waiting lists decades long and could weather long streaks of losing. Plus, the media in those places are much more forgiving and even to an extent homerish enough to pump the tires of the team to keep fan interest.
Out here, if our media aren't trying their best to stir the pot, outright advocate getting people fired/waived/traded or ripping them to shreds fairly or unfairly, it's the fans that are doing the same. |

Not to change the subject but have you guys seen that "fumble/touchback" call against the Jets? Holy poop! Somewhere a mafia dude is rubbing his hands together with glee. Never have I seen something like that. |

Again, I think, and know, you're simply way off base with the way you think. Out of the roughly 2.5 million people in the lower mainland over 50% of them are caucasian's with a long hockey history. 2013 census.
Caucasian 1,250,360 52.5%
Aboriginal origins 64,473 2.3%
Latin, Central and South American origins 29,125 1.3%
African origins 23,545 1%
Middle Eastern origins 48,865 2.1%
South Asian origins 252,405 11.1%
East and Southeast Asian origins 644,555 29.7% |

I liked Pouliots game, he seemed alot more offensive then Edler, needs a bit of work in his own zone but vans had worse. He was fast at getting the puck up and out of the zone without icing it |
