Even had we somehow lucked out and won the lottery, we're missing many complimentary pieces because we've been trying to take shortcuts.
Why should fans sit on their hands and not criticize the lack of clear direction the team has shown us?
I've heard suggestions that we're bad fans for not paying hundreds of dollars to go to games and watch the crappy product.
Bullpoop. If and artist puts out 3 bad albums in a row are you compelled to listen to the next one?
Don is fond of saying the team owes us nothing, however we owe it nothing in return. - golfingsince
True enough. And if you don't mind jumping up and down of the bandwagon ill grab you a penguin jersey this year and a different one next year... fairweather fans be damned.

Keep in mind this rash of poor direction regret is stemming from losses right now,,,as we head down the wrong path to a third top 3 lottery position in a row.... dammit, it has to stop. Sarcasm.
If we were drifting away from lottery positions,,, I'd agree about direction.
Benning has done some backwards poop while we head in the right direction, true. He can be replaced now... and then the next GM will put us on the right track by winning games and drifting away from draft position too soon.
Can Benning's ass after a couple more cracks at a franchise player/s and twhen we need someone new to manage a bunch of young talent. Lets keep drafting as high as possible. The time may be right to get a bunch of picks this season.
Thank you everybody.

How many Canuck draft picks on the team? signing ufas is not a rebuild. - A_SteamingLombardi
Yeah math don't lie unlike skewing the facts to what a rebuild is or not.
Draft picks take an average 4 years to develop. Most don't make it. Thus, only form part of the rebuild.
Trading for younger players or signing young free agents like Stecher are part of rebuilds as well. Stop gaps or fillers serve the development part for your younger core. |

I believe both Linden and Benning signed four year contracts, so this is their last year, I'm not sure whether or not they'll be re-signed, but IMO they damn sure shouldn't be.
The TDL wasn't this glowing success everyone proclaims it to be until someones able to produce at the NHL level. I think he should be fired before then so someone else can make some deadline deals that might actually help the club.
I'm a good hater of Jim Benning and his stupidity - LeftCoaster
Really, this is the first time I’ve heard this, you should probably be more open and transparent. |

Lefty brings up a good point if it's accurate. Benning would need to be resigned to be given more time. That does alter the rationality a bit. A two year deal I'd be behind but no longer. |

I think they should have Goldobin, Boeser and Virtanen all in the NHL this year and give them some mintues. If they're gonna lose why not lose with some kids who can at least provide some excitement. They're still insullated by some vets but it'd be more fun to watch.
For the record, no I don't think the twins or Vanek are exciting to watch. - LeftCoaster
My opinion is that they don’t provide excitement, nothing, they should develop them properly as you have advocated for years. |

It is the losing, we don't have a Stanley Cup to hold in our hearts as a memory of better times, we have a 40+ year history of ineptitude with one generation (2008-2012) where we were top of the NHL. We don't have the population, history or the type of rabid fan base that cities like Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal do that would accept the type of rebuild that you advocate.
I submit that even if we won a Stanley Cup, we still wouldn't be happy unless we went 82-0 and 16-0 in the playoffs with 0 GA, a perfect PP/PK and our leading scorer breaking all of Gretz's individual season records. We have a huge inferiority complex in this town and we're super hard on anyone that puts on the uniform, is the coach or GM/President, most of the time unfairly. - DariusKnight

You are hilarious at times, please tell me when and where this excitement has been, everyone “but” Virtanen are getting more minutes than Sedins, Vanek. I haven’t seen any excitement at all from anyone. Horvat, Granlund and Baertschi are so easily contained averaging 20 minutes a night. Hutton and Stecher are absolutely terrible on the back end. |

Well said. A lot of much a do about nothing. Missing the end results. Taking a complex situation and dumming it down to simplicities of rebuilding that are innacurate.
Seems the polished GM type will want to come in and contend. So won't bother signing with Canucks until JB has done more dirty work bringing in the talent.
Thus, they probably give JB another deal and then fire him half way through when Canucks aren't contending in the playoffs. |

Pat Quinn wouldn't work in today's NHL, he wasn't a drafter like you need to be in todays cap world. He was a trader, much like Burke; in today's NHL you have to build via the draft or you're gonna fail. - LeftCoaster
Yes all true but times change then change with it. He did draft that russian fella
Trade wise when St Louis was hot to trot for Butcher he made them take Dan Quinn off our hands. Thats the type of deal JB needs work on. Sometimes a package is the better route other than the one for one. Kesler hamstrung us so it was a package we got. He followed it up with Sutter. Guds was his latest & the jury is still out on that one. When i've gone on about trading down in a draft the aim is assets for what seems quality. I think JB should have options open in that regard. I get it he targets a player & also got a Lind he was surprised was still there at 33. Next TDL & draft combined can or will be most intriguing if i had my way. I see us being sellers & it come soon enough. Damn it sucks being only 4 games in lol. |

I respect your opinion but I simply disagree with your thoughts. Having a Stanley Cup means poop if it was years ago for fan bases like Philadelphia, they have one of the most loyal rabid fanbases in the league but they won't support a team without direction.
I know you think that a rebuild wouldn't work in Vancouver, although no ones ever attempted it, but I think you're totally wrong, and neither of us can prove the other to be incorrect.
I also think the notion that Vancouver has an inferiority complex is something that's in your mind only. Vancouver has a diverse population, unlike any other in Canada except perhaps Montreal and Toronto but they're original six franchises. - LeftCoaster

Have you seen Goldy play lately? Cull has said good things. Puts him on PK. Not sure if label should hang just like JV "not fit" label. Young players adapt and change or they find themselves out.
Rodin has longer climb adjusting it seems. Haven't seen or heard much yet. - Nuck4U
looking back on the goldobin trade I tend to feel that hanson with his work ethic, grit and versatility is missed on this team and may have been better to keep him
at least at this point. |
