Playing like a guy collecting his paycheck until he can sign in Europe or the KHL. - juiced
He played like a guy who played his first regular season game in a new city for a new team.
We should probably give him a bit more leeway before we judge him as Softy McSofterson who can't wait to go to Europe. |

My point was I think he can be a better player, right now, than Read or Lehtera. My second point was that no one can know if a kid is ready. They can think he's ready, but the only way to know for sure is to give him a shot. I'm not calling for him to come up to stay. I'm just suggesting that he might give them more for a game than Lehtera or Read.
Honestly, when you respond with "do you know that Martel is ready", you just come off as someone looking for an argument. I respect your hockey knowledge and I think you often make cogent points, but I also think you often respond to posts for no other reason than to start an argument. - BiggE
Do you know that the only way is to give him a shot? |

I saw him some last year. Played a lot with Terasanko. (Spelling)?
Didn't look horrible. Now He looks slow and looked a little soft on the boards for a big guy. - jaws1955
Yeah, Tarasenko will make anyone look better.
Fun fact: the Blues drafted Jaden Schwartz AHEAD of Tarasenko (they had 2 first's) |

Yes, plus, they didn't draft Crosby or McDavid, either. |

Didn't see last night's game but it sounds like Lehtera is headed for the Umberger treatment. Only saw him once in pre-season but it was more of the same that I'm hearing. Could not follow the play and threw blind passes into dangerous areas.
If the decision is made that Lehtera is headed for a buyout I'd rather see Read up with the Flyers. |

I think there is certainly a chance he gets bought out, but I doubt that decision will be made anytime soon |

4/15 players drafted ahead of him are still with their original team. |

Aren't there designated buyout windows? I don't think you can just buy a guy out on any given day.
More teams need to explore the mutual termination option with players that they want to buy out. |

We know Read is strong defensively and a good possession player. He just lost a step or two. He still had 10 goals last year, I think. He may not score much but won't get burned either. |

If it was just a step or two, that would be fine. It's more like 7 or 8 steps. His main asset was speed, which made him an effective PKer and a good secondary scorer. That speed is long gone. I'm not saying he's a bad spare forward to plug in for a game, but not a guy you want playing long-term. |

It's early but based on what I've seen and heard so far, he's better suited as the utility 13th forward/injury replacement than Lehtera. He's also been a Flyer for 6 years. Not that loyalty should drive decisions but it can be appreciated when there is an opportunity to show it. |

I wouldn't say his main asset was speed. He also has a high hockey IQ. He was a much more dangerous player with the top notch speed but he's still been effective in other ways without it. |

LOL..It is a lot of steps.
I don't see him as a plug in for more then a game or two. Of all the guys it may be Veccs that could step into Weals roll. He has some speed and can score a bit.
Hey chased him pretty hard and he really fell out of the "shiny new toy" status after we got the #2 pick. Lauhgton and Leir surprised me too. Veccs is the forgotten man now. |

Yeah in June (and another one if someone goes to arbitration) I don't mean he is going to get bought out tomorrow. He is sticking around this year unless he were to be traded somehow. |

By Umberger treatment I meant press box until the foregone conclusion that's being bought out after the season. I really think that's where this is heading but It's definitely too early to say for sure.
I don't think Lehtera would ever consider a mutual termination. He's making way too much money the next 2 seasons. He'd make a fraction of it playing overseas. |
