Yup, I thought it was Lehtera at first but realized later it was filppula. Simmonds gambled (a little stupidly) after MacDonald made an acceptable pinch then Filppula just stopped once he gained the dzone blue line. Ugh.
On a similar note Amac was bad for the first couple games. Has been ok since - Giroux_Is_God
I also felt that Neuvy could've gotten a piece of it. Didn't seem like that hard of a shot, went through him, and his body language afterwards seemed like "damn, I could've had that". Could've also just been bummed about the whole sequence.

My point was I think he can be a better player, right now, than Read or Lehtera. My second point was that no one can know if a kid is ready. They can think he's ready, but the only way to know for sure is to give him a shot. I'm not calling for him to come up to stay. I'm just suggesting that he might give them more for a game than Lehtera or Read.
Honestly, when you respond with "do you know that Martel is ready", you just come off as someone looking for an argument. I respect your hockey knowledge and I think you often make cogent points, but I also think you often respond to posts for no other reason than to start an argument. - BiggE
It wouldn't be that hard to be better than Lehtera was. I wasn't looking for an argument, I just figured since you've posted a number of times about bringing Martel up, I thought you might have some insight.

As a closet Penguins fan it's basically win win for you right?
- Mononoke
I'd be happy with both.
Would prefer it if he caused a turnover in Game 7 of the ECF that leads to the Flyers beating them on the way to the Cup. But sure, I'd take it. |

I'm not saying he's useless, just that there are ways to get rid of a guy aside from buying him out. And I never said to shame him/not play him. I said weigh a buy out vs. a mutual termination.
So...the NHLPA would urge one of its players to take less money home and not become a UFA where he can sign and make more money? Sounds like a good union to me. Personally, if a team says to me that I can make $3.3M to become a UFA or $3.5M to become a UFA, I'd taking the extra money, union be damned.
I'm also not in favor of either, just saying what I would try if they wanted to buy him out. - jmatchett383
Mutual termination means that the contract is ended. There is no lump sum payment to a player to get him to do so. That would be cap circumvention and it is illegal.

I haven't liked what I have seen from Lehtera at all but I think it's a little early to talk about buy outs or mutual termination...even Hackstol suggested it's only one game.

Nonsense. Everyone knew after the rookie game that Sanheim wasn't ready for the NHL yet. |

Agreed but he wasn't very good. Tough spot for him but he needs to be more competitive than that.

It is incredibly odd at a minimum. They get evaluated based on the calls they make/don't make. So you'd think he would have to be getting paid by someone who wants the Eagles to lose for him to try to do his job worse.
Officiating in the NFL in general is just unbearable. Every other play is a penalty. - YuenglingJagr

i thought amac had a pretty strong performance vs nashville in the first game, unfortunate ending aside. overall he's been better than i expected. still...i want morin in the lineup.

stoppable shot, sure, but not a bad goal either. over the pad and under the blocker is a tough spot for the goalie.
your goalie gives up one goal the entire game, on an oddman no less, is a performance i'm very happy with. he's been excellent in all 3 games. the team needs to score for him. last year it was mason and they scored for him. now it's him and they score for elliott. weird.

True but even though Weise and Manning, by comparison, are inconsistent in their results, they do get their noses dirty and play hard. I thought Lehtera looked disinterested and ineffective during the pre-season and last night. He wasn't the only vet to look like that during the pre-season, but the other vets turned the switch. The games are for real now. It does raise some questions about forward depth. |

Absolutely. Rinne did play well at the other end, and one glaring mistake ended up in their net. That certainly wasn't all on Neuvy. Dude has been great so far this year, but hard to win if you score zero goals.
I still can't understand Coots at the end with that puck going off his stick. I'm tellin' yous guys that Ghost buries a goal if he gets a good pass. |

I also felt that Patrick's lack of explosive first steps was glaring last night. He looked to be in quicksand for a lot of the game. Still makes such smart little plays with the puck, but I wonder how long the after effects of those surgeries are going to linger. |

i'm sure the goal has been dissected to death. filppula takes heavy blame, imo, for letting up on scissons. he stopped skating, let him go, which allowed him to get the shot off. simple as that. i hate that (frank)ing poop. don't let up. don't glide by the net. don't turn away.
- hammarby31
I watched the replay and don't understand how Scissons didn't get called for holding/interference. Filppula is skating with him and he uses his free hand to reach back and push off to create separation

He was solid. I haven't seen anything in his game at this point which says he's not ready. Plus he'll only get better.

He's getting some special teams ice time too. He seems to be a kid who can literally improve game-to-game. That's incredibly exciting. I liked the way Hagg bounced back last night too. He eliminated the uncharacteristic gaffes he experienced against FLA. I like our D and our overall team D plus there's backup, just in case. |
