Clearly Virtanen was offsides though, I'd love to have had the refs explain why it was a good goal. The only explaination I can think of is that they couldn't tell definitely when he had control of the puck and therefore it's too inconclusive to overturn the play.

He had control of the puck as in knocking down and onto stick so he can enter backwards. But it was 50 50 on control part so you are probably right not enough seen to overrule on ice call.

Is control possession? I think JV knew where the puck was and was looking where to pass it, if he had reached to pass the puck and missed it the whistle would have blown. I don`t think the puck has to be on his stick for him to control it, he tipped it to himself to start that`s some sort of control.
