I have no sympathy for people who want to participate in contact sports but have no intention on protecting themselves and bracing for a hit. I have no respect for those who knowingly/strategically put themselves in a more dangerous position with the full expectation that the opposition will let up and cave into their spineless strategy. - RonPielep
Gubranson had plenty of time to let up.
Good call on the penalties and misconduct. |

Honestly, I would rather see Guddy play with a chip and risk some suspensions than just be another D-man. He does not need to instigate but he can intimidate. |

Myself being a defenceman that's a tough one, your lining up the hit then he stops and turns his back - Bettmanhatesus
Vatrano's back was turned prior to Guddy engaging. Vatrano's did not turn his back at all. Guddy also elevated himself into the hit needlessly. It's an easy boarding major and suspension to call and was a bad hit. Hopefully the league consistently can call and enforce it.
The Canucks have been screwed over on other calls, this is not one of them. |

It was an undisciplined & bad hit on Gubranson's part.
He deserves the 1 game suspension. - Marwood
If Vatrano doesn't turn his back to make the play at the last second, then the majority of the hit is shoulder to shoulder, Vatrano can use his right arm to brace into the boards (which is what happens in 90% of these types of hits) and nobody is even talking about that hit.
I mean I'm not crying about the one game suspension. I could care less. I just dislike when foolish people like Vatrano make a bad name for contact sports in general leading to a further crackdown by the leviathan baby-sitter government.

Agreed. I have no problem with this. Did he leave his feet? Yeah but only marginally --- it was not like a huge leap..... Did he hit the numbers? Yeah, but the guy had the puck, it is a fast game....
If the player Guddy hit was not a 4 foot 6 man-child, it probably would just be a "hit" rather than a "hit.
But one game is fair.

What was Guddy's alternative? A sad stick check? Even if he stayed on his feet he would have crushed the guy. |

If you honestly believe that nonsense then I guess we should just get rid of contact altogether or all players should skate up the ice with their head down so they are untouchable.
At the very last second Vatrano's body position goes from being angled partially towards the corner to completely facing the boards so he can draw Gudbranson further in before moving the puck to his linemate (all while expecting Gudbranson not to follow through). It's craven nonsense and nobody should be buying it. |

I love hard hitting hockey. I hope Gubranson keeps playing a mean & tough game without jeopardizing the team. |

Yes because you know anyone who elaborates on their perspective as opposed to just repeating their position three times clearly sounds (through text) like they are crying. |

one game suspension is fine. I am not surprised. Once he left his feet you knew that there would be a suspension. |

Vatrano goes from around 75% facing the boards to 100% facing the boards at the very last second. That difference is the difference between being able to brace for the hit and protect yourself or not. If you can't see that then this whole argument is pointless. |

It was too bad that Kassian's hit (Which I think he was just looking for cocaine near the boards) happened the same night.... now everyone will make comparisons when the only real comparison is the date.

Chaulk it up to "fast game". As long as if the roles were reversed there were be a similar outcome even if Guddy took the hit and didn't even go down.

Other then D pairings, lines probably the same as they start last game except for Burmy and Bo being switched. D pairings obviously just replacing Biega for Guds. |
