I think a bourbon Manhattan might be the perfect cocktail, provided you are using a decent bourbon of course. |

The problem is, trading for one might make them better but it doesn't make them good, Cup contending good, and it spends assets. So what's the point? Draft and develop your own. Shortcuts have proven disappointing thus far.....patience in the process.
If you can get an idiot GM to give you a good player for some poopty players then sure, do it, but Bennning doesn't have that track record. - LeftCoaster
The name Sam Reinhart was thrown around tonight who at this point is struggling (low cost ) no one is giving up the farm to get him .
It doesn't have to be a Duchene trade. Teams like TO are looking for D and have a forward to move.
I think Benning is doing the right thing by looking to see what is available.
Pouliot is a perfect example Canucks picked up an eighth overall for a fourth and Pedan. Pouliot seems to be fitting in quite nicely |

The granlund / shink trade was good! And bear for a second.
Kessler trade = meh / moot
The one that may hurt is trading forsling and maybe the McCann trade.
Overall, I think JB has done well. He really needs boeser, JV, Peterson, OJ + 1/2 other surprises to pan out though.

Rumour?
Canucks 3rd jersey next year will be the skate logo in more current colours?
Green, the more prominent colour?
I have no source to name.
I'm not trust worthy.
But let's see if I'm right.
Either way we all probably forget I mentioned it.
Goodnight.
Thanks Nucker!

I think what gets lost when evaluating the trades etc under Benning is the specific moment in time, and what his mandate was. Now, don’t for a moment consider this a Benning apologist post, but when you take the moves in the context of where the team was and what his job was, they make sense, to me at least.
1. Be competitive - ok, got it, ageing team, franchise players in the twilight but still need to sell “playoff hockey” - this is your Kesler, Miller, Vrbata type poop
2. Rebuild the farm - there were literally no AHL prospects ready to make the jump to draw from. That’s your Bear Cheese, Vey etc.
3. Establish a new talent pool of drafted prospects - this is where, I believe, Benning gets the most grief, because he spent picks doing 1 and 2, and he picked guys in the 1st round that aren’t ideal - JV when NE and WN were on the board, EP when everyone wanted Glass or whoever etc. I don’t agree, but i’ve done things at work because that’s what the boss wanted done even if i didn’t believe it wasn’t the right thing to do. |

it is rather entertaining on here at times, one day a poster will claim to be a draftist and a few days later they want to be buyers. 😁

As per @botchford, the #Canucks are looking to add a centre, but are not willing to trade Olli Juolevi for Matt Duchene. https://t.co/TeAGl64jV5
Why is Benning looking to add a center outside of the draft #idiot - LeftCoaster
One could counter that the idiot is the one that thinks Botchford is an insider. The Canucks are looking for a center for utica depth |

I have felt all off season that Jim is going to make a trade for a top 6 player. I know some here don't think it is the right thing . I think we have the making of a decent top 6 in the next year or two. I like Granlund and Sutter so trading for a top 6 guy and one UFA signing plus a high draft pick is a smart thing IMO. I know many will see it differently - VANTEL

It depends on how you look at it. I know myself I want a high draft pick this year only. This is the year to be wheeling and dealing as two slow aging vets who have a hefty part of the cap play out their final year.
You are forgetting Pouliot was drafted top 10 five years ago and has now matured. This year we are hoping to draft top 10 to pick up a Dman that can move the puck. Isn't that what DP does? A fourth round pick to correct the error that Mike Gillis left. Is that not like drafting the eighth over all in 2012? OJ was drafted 2 drafts ago and has 2 years before he makes this team and overall it will be 5 years before he is an impact player, Puoliot fast forwards that gap until OJ is ready.
If you were able to pick up Sam Reinhart a second overall three years ago that is another top 10 draft pick that is close to ripe. Isn't that the idea of a draftist ? Top 10 picks?
Pouliot and Reinhart are both top 10 draft picks in the last 5 years and under 25 .
I know I am not hoping for a bottom 10 finish in 2018-19 season and looking at the club and the kids I don't think they will be cellar dwellers.
After thinking of it more I see no problem with Reinhart replacing Danny Granlund replacing Sven and Baertschi moving to third line on LW until better players come along. |

I am aware of where Puli out was drafted. I have no problem if they go after Reinhardt over Duchene, just what is the cost? We need to keep our picks, so maybe if it was Sven and Hutton for Reinhardt and a 4th. |

I don't care about Duchene because of the cost, term left on his contract , and he will be 27 in Jan.
As for Reinhart I would go harder. I would look and see first of all will Gudbrandson accept an extension? If no he would be my offer . If he does accept it would be directed then to Stecher or Hutton as the starting piece. |
