They haven't played any of the heavy teams since he's been injured so it's worked out so far.

You can thank the Flyer's amazing young D that has made MDZ expendable for JB to bring him in on the cheap in his prime.

I know its a small sample size but I think we can all agree that its sure as sh*t not as bad as last year - Tanev, MDZ, Gudbranson and Hutton are really playing well, even Pouliot looks decent. I don't think the D deserve some of the harsh criticism that they get around here. Hutton for example, has been playing against top lines, averaging over 22mins, those are tough mins and he's only in his 3rd year, he got a lot to learn and improve on but this is the right way IMO.

My "we will see" was because it is sometimes hard to know who likes the team and who wants it to fail on this board. I like the team and have been saying all along that there is something different this year and I think it comes down to one year older for the youth and a wiser coaching plan.

I 100% agree that the team looks better. Might it tail off? Ya, but for now we are seeing passionate games from almost each and every player at different points of different games. The D has been amazing considering 2 of its members are on the shelf. The goaltending has been good enough to win games. I like what I see and hope it continues

I don't think its surprising, Loui is just not a good hockey player. He doesn't drive the play in any way whatsoever. Plus, He's too slow on the forecheck to create turnovers and only mediocre defensively. His spot has been taken by Jake, and he's a better player in pretty much every aspect.
