Man I feel old when thinking about guys like him and Rick Nash. I remember being in high school when those guys were coming into the league, and now they're "old". - Wetbandit1
So are the silent sam supporters. Terrible hockey iq on the pass to no one on the power play. His effort is terrible, he can't skate. But he has "hockey iq"
I do think that upgrading from Risto as a #1 is a must. Doesn’t mean you have to trade him.
I also think moving Sam now while he still might be viewed as a really good young player might be smart. Especially if you can get a good top 4 D or top D prospect - sbroads24
I like how you said sam "Might" be viewed as a really good young player. I'm not sure of gms around the league look at him that way. I went to the game 6 rows from the ice. I watched him clear the puck down the ice on the power play. "Hockey iq" I'm not sure if they're mis using him, but he shouldn't be in front of the net on the power play. I think he came into the league as a passer? I guess if he's not doing that correctly, then the sabres have to find somewhere to put him. He has 1 assist.
I just think his skills are limited. Especially his skating - sbroads24
His skating will prevent him from doing anything in the middle in the NHL, he needs to be on the wing. When he plays C, guys are on him so fast and he can't do anything about it cause he just isn't quick.

Lehner played great - Boss34
I think Sam is a very smart player, he just looks overwhelmed trying to play centre because he is just to slow to play there.
Well then u haven’t watched Sam much in his time here...
bc Reinhart is the best player we’ve had in front of the net since Vanek
Yeah, he’s a “playmaker” who can pass the puck
But he’s also very good in front
In short:
-We have about 5.6m in Cap Room,
with Kane signed at 6.0m
-I left Lehner unsigned bc I think his status with the team is very up in the air at this point
-trading Moulson(5.0m) & Bogosian(5.1m), would give us any necessary Cap Room to bring in a big ticket player like Tavares, Carey Price, Kovalchuk, John Carlson, etc...
or even just room to make more reasonable upgrades on defense & at goal

I am willing to give Bogo 20 games with Housley before I kick him to the curb

Hard Hat, is that you? 39?
But seriously, the front of the net is where Reinhart does most of his damage. It's the tips or the tap ins from a couple feet out that accounts for most of his goals. He (frank)ed up on a pass, it happens. Jack is literally the best player in the league in terms of controlled zone entries and he screws up skating the puck in quite a bit. Reinhart's having a bad start to the year. He'll be fine. Or he won't. But proclaiming something after 9 games is dumb.
On a positive note Scandella and Benoit-Balls have both looked like they're finally starting to play well.

they should move Moulson to the yotes now - homiedclown
Well it’s pretty unlikely we could move him now anyways
So we might as well see what Housley can do with Bogosian if he ever gets healthy
I just included his name as a trade option bc it’s unlikely that he will live up to his salary at this point
Moulson is obviously done
Okposo & Pominville are other big contracts that could be moved, but Pommer has been great so far (we should keep him with Jack) & I expect Okposo to still end up having a good season for us

It almost looked like Jack was trying to hard to set Okposo up and may have missed other opportunities for himself.
Having been at last nights game and from having observed watching various games from teams around the league this year so far, the NHL game now is as exciting as watching paint dry. There isn't much hitting, there's no fighting and no animosity like there used to be. The only excitement are the goals followed by lulls that last in real world time from 20 minutes to hours. Everything inbetween in like an awkward stilletto dance filled in with players trying to avoid meaningless penalties.
