And Manning was not the worst D man on the ice last night. The pinch he made was in a 4v4 situation, and his own player(Flip)pinned him against the boards. He may have been wandering a bit on that rush the Ducks had up the ice that scored, but TK also let his man blow right by him.
All I'm saying is there was plenty of blame to go around on the D corps. I liked the way they finished the game with Provy-Sanheim, Ghost-Hagg, and Manning-Gudas. As a matter of fact, this is the D lineup I suggested before the season even started. Let those six work together and let's see what happens. |

Tough loss. But its gonna happen from time to time. Flyers were physically manhandled yesterday.

I believe that MacDonald is unfairly criticized and is a much better player than given credit for by the fan base. However, I don't believe that having him in the lineup last night would've changed much last night. Same with Morin. I understand the physical match up suggestion, but he would've been toast last night also. - MJL
Mac has easily been one of our top 4 d-men this season. Its a shame... he really had been playing confident hockey. |

I would love to say Morin for manning has to be a certainty at this point but I don't think it is. I don't see how Morin would of made last night better if anything he would of just broken somebody face and got tossed. I also don't know that vs a trap team that's going to force a lot of turnovers is really a great first game to judge Morin or a Toronto team that has more firepower than the us army. Manning is bad. We know this. But will playing Morin in games where he's going to struggle with a partner whose also struggling going to help him? Idk about that. |

He very clearly is one our best defenseman today. I won't argue that anyone should be in over him until at least next season. Manning gudas however... gudas needs to learn to control his emotions you've been around how long? |

Additionally, the goaltending play by Brian Elliott (19 saves on 26 shots) was subpar over the final 40 minutes. He let in one outright soft goal and also was made to look bad on Kase's penalty shot goal.
I feel like on every recap where Elliot starts I am reading something like this. |

At some point you need to take the training wheels off though.
I get the apprehension that comes with using 3 rookies and a 2nd year guy on d, but thats hand the Flyers were dealt (and sort of loaded for themselves). I think Manning has been pretty bad this year. I like that he works hard. I like that-from all accounts- he is a great teammate.. but getting Morin in (the guy who I thought was least likely to be cut following pre-season) is gonna help get through these growing pains sooner rather than later. A-mac is out for 4-6 weeks. Bring up Morin.. put him in and play him for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks re-evaluate which of the rooks needs the most work.. when Mac gets back send them back down. Manning shouldnt see regular time again here in Philly. I mean that, and thats not because I am down on him.. I just think he is our 8th best d-man. |

Having seen Morin numerous times over two seasons with the Phantoms and before that in a fair share of streams of his junior games, I can say that I don't think tonight's game was one where he'd have done well, either.
I like Morin quite a bit but when the Phantoms need a settle-things-down shift in a game that's going off the rails, well, he's still learning to do that. He pours gasoline on the fire less often than he used to -- whether it's with a bad penalty or a low-percentage gamble -- but he still too often lets his emotions get the best of him when there's adversity around him within a game. What he's gotten better at is playing under control when the team as a whole is playing that way. - bmeltzer
I wasn't necessarily saying they would've won last night with Morin, just hinting at the overall idea of playing 3 rookie defensemen instead of rolling with Brandon Manning for 4+ weeks.
Manning has played well enough before, but I don't think he is right now |

The whole point of a 7th d man is he can come in and be a replacement adequately but you prefer not to need him for long stretches. You're not going to find a stud to be a 7th d man or else they'd be in somebody top 6. I think there are better opportunities to get Morin in and I think he will at some point during macd injury. But I don't think these next 2 games are it. Especially coming off a game where all 6 d weren't good. |

Thats completely fine and I dont disagree.
But with Mac being out for a sustained period of time, I would rather see a guy like Morin come in and play for longer periods of time. So we dont need him to play the next two games, but I would still call him up.
Let him practice and go through the team meetings and all, and then next Monday he goes in and as long as he doesnt totally blow it, he stays in until Mac come back. Then he can go back down and get big minutes in the AHL again and Manning can be the 7th who gets the odd game or two when a guy is sick or needs to sit. |

I would rather call up a guy like Brennan or alt to ride the bench for the back to back road trips than call Morin back up when we get back from our Midwest one. We should still have 4-6 games after that for Morin to get his shot. Our team needs to play better during that time before inserting another rookie makes sense imo. |

I was a big proponent for Morin going in over gudas earlier. Feel like he could of got comfortable while we were playing well. Throwing him in now is throwing him into the fire. |

But doing it now this early in a season where they aren't quite there yet as a team could be the perfect time.

Brennan is out 2-to-3 more weeks.
Not that Myers is a callup option yet, but he probably is out at least for tonight, too.
Alt is a potential callup option. Not real good with the puck but defends well. |

Gee, what a surprise. Giroux lost his composure. Isn't this a trait he has carried with him his whole career? |

I agree, just goes off the deep end on a regular basis. Suspension after suspension. Just a real loose cannon. |

So are they gonna cut that puck into 1/3's or just give it to Sanheim... |
