Growing pains for a young lineup. Nothing more.

Yep.

Well, that and some untimely crappy play by most of the vets.

Oh, and some really sub-par goaltending.

I would rather call up a guy like Brennan or alt to ride the bench for the back to back road trips than call Morin back up when we get back from our Midwest one. We should still have 4-6 games after that for Morin to get his shot. Our team needs to play better during that time before inserting another rookie makes sense imo.

I looked at it from more of a "thanks for being a good soldier" aspect.

He worked his balls off. Played well in the camp and (IMO) really well in the preseason, and then when push came to shove and he was sent down, he did it professionally. You know he was disappointed. You know, hell he told us he wants to play in the NHL. So here come on out with us on our midwest swing, get a few sessions in with us, and then next week we will get you in.

That just me.

I personally think he is better suited for the NHL game than any of the other players (aside from Myers) down on the farm right now anyway.

Gee, what a surprise. Giroux lost his composure. Isn't this a trait he has carried with him his whole career?

At what point do you think we run with Neuvirth as the defacto 1A? Still think Elliot will get games from time to time, but Neuvy should be there guy really.

I hated the refs stopping them from fighting. But we all knew as soon as they exited the box it was on.

I would love to say Morin for manning has to be a certainty at this point but I don't think it is. I don't see how Morin would of made last night better if anything he would of just broken somebody face and got tossed. I also don't know that vs a trap team that's going to force a lot of turnovers is really a great first game to judge Morin or a Toronto team that has more firepower than the us army. Manning is bad. We know this. But will playing Morin in games where he's going to struggle with a partner whose also struggling going to help him? Idk about that.

I think you answered your own question there sir.

everyone can mock Amac all they want but holy hell, and granted it was just one game where the whole team looked sluggish outside of 28-14-93, but the d pairs were all out of whack. Didn't like Provorov/Hagg. Ghost looked bad without Hagg. Was happy to see them back together as the game progressed. I think that was Provorov's worse game since Chicago last year. Weal looked rusty. the 4th line misses Leier's speed.

I was at the game sitting the opposite end of the arena so I couldn't really see exactly what happened to Patrick. Hopefully he is ok.

I don't understand Hakstol's insisting to go with Elliott 6 of the 9 games when Neurvirth has clearly been the better goalie so far. I don't have a "favorite" like I did when Mason was here. I simply want to see the hot goalie play. I just don't get Hakstol's goalie decisions sometimes

This team is much better than last year's team but not sure they are good enough to win when they aren't on top of their game if that makes sense.

So not a playoff team. Could have really used some size on the backend.

Having seen Morin numerous times over two seasons with the Phantoms and before that in a fair share of streams of his junior games, I can say that I don't think tonight's game was one where he'd have done well, either.

I like Morin quite a bit but when the Phantoms need a settle-things-down shift in a game that's going off the rails, well, he's still learning to do that. He pours gasoline on the fire less often than he used to -- whether it's with a bad penalty or a low-percentage gamble -- but he still too often lets his emotions get the best of him when there's adversity around him within a game. What he's gotten better at is playing under control when the team as a whole is playing that way.

- bmeltzer

would you say him getting that part of his game under control is why he isn't here in favor of Sanheim at this point on his career?>

I just don't trust Neuvirth to play an extended stretch without getting hurt. He is the better option right now though.

I want to see the following D pairings.

Provorv-Gudas (Cheese Pairing)
Ghost-Hagg
Morin-Sanheim

I think Ghost and Hagg need to stick together regardless of the other pairings.

I didn't like the idea of Provy and Hagg together before the game even started. To me it was putting your best two together and then either praying the other pairs held up or you were planning on riding them to death.

I also didn't see Patrick's injury well due to angle but the results when he was leaving the ice didn't look good at all.

Neuvy needs to be in for the next two games. Elliot needs practice time to get his head outta his ass.

They are a better team. But are they a playoff team. Who knows right now?

Okay so maybe I wasnt really clear with what I was trying to get at..

I want Manning in the Cote suite. I dont wanna see Manning on the ice unless we are healthy and a guy needs a game off bec he is sick, or a healthy scratch for one of the young guys.

Thats why I want Morin up. So that for the next 3-5 weeks while Amac is out, Morin will play every night here in the NHL.

When Amac gets back, boom, Morin back to the AHL playing heavy minutes.

If we are really honest, while the Flyers (mainly the top line) had their share of scoring chances in the first period, too much of the period was spent in their own end and turning over pucks. That was masked by the 12 blocked shots in the first period but was just a matter of time if they kept going in that direction.

But, yes, things got further complicated with Patrick went out and none of the revised D pairings clicking. Elliott also had a poor game -- he was more lucky than good until the deluge but OTOH, the downright soft one came after the horse was already out of the barn. I don't fault him on the Kase deflection goal, the Ritchie rebound put-in on the power play the Montour goal or the Rakell one. The third period one by Getzlaf was awful, and he committed way early on the penalty shot goal.

- bmeltzer

I said that to the person I was at the game with. After the first the Flyers outshot them 2 to 1 but I felt as tho the Ducks had the better of the play. The Flyers didn't seem to have their speed last night and were out muscled a lot.

If you were told the Flyers would be either 6-4 or 5-5 after the first 10 games before the season what would your feeling have been?

I'll take it. Young team learning there way. Hopefully they continue to improve.
