I really really look forward to when Patrick starts to find his offensive game. I'd love to see him centering a line with Simmonds. Last nights game just showed me that this team is very young, but I am still very excited for the future. If they could get a second line going the way Coots, G and Yak are, that could be very scary for other teams.

If you were told the Flyers would be either 6-4 or 5-5 after the first 10 games before the season what would your feeling have been?

Same as it is now - it's what I expect

I hated the refs stopping them from fighting. But we all knew as soon as they exited the box it was on.

Was kind of a selfish fight for Gudas, IMO, not a spark-the-team one even if he had fsred better. With the Flyers blueline struggling on this night, lots of inexperience in the lineup, and him being more important to the Flyers than Bieksa to the Ducks, he took himself off for seven minutes; a better trade-off for Anaheim. Didn't mind the initial one at all if they hadn't been separated... just one of those heat of battle things... but didn't like the prearranged one as soon as they stepped out of the box. For all that, Gudas came out on the short end and Anaheim drew some momentum.

Selfish.. I like that.

I called it a dumb fight. Soon as he stepped out I said this is dumb. It served no point. Like you said Bill, they were already short on defense and really raw with the young guys. My brother was hoping they would fight as soon as they got out of the box, but I tried to tell him if Gudas breaks his hand or something, we are in deep poop.. Instead he got KO'd and fortunately didnt end up with a concussion or anything.

I would love to say Morin for manning has to be a certainty at this point but I don't think it is. I don't see how Morin would of made last night better if anything he would of just broken somebody face and got tossed. I also don't know that vs a trap team that's going to force a lot of turnovers is really a great first game to judge Morin or a Toronto team that has more firepower than the us army. Manning is bad. We know this. But will playing Morin in games where he's going to struggle with a partner whose also struggling going to help him? Idk about that.

that would have made it better for me being there watching that mess of a game

They've been doing that bell ringing when guys square up for a while. Agreed, totally stupid but remember Philadelphia and the love affair with a fictional boxer....

Seemed to me that Provy had a rough game because of the absence of AMac. There were a few instances where he was totally out of sync on d-d passes. WHO CARRIES WHO?!?

But for real, they got rocked last night, some guys lost their cool (Don't know why Simmonds was so upset on that penalty with Getzlaf. Let go of the dudes stick?).

I thought Eliott looked uneven in the Edmonton game, and from just about every measureable stat, plus the eye test, Neuvirth has been the better goalie.

I guess the hit on Patrick was some bad luck and a kid not being used to the physicality just yet, but I still didn't like it. Wagner then laid out Lehtera in center ice and Giroux stuck a leg out on him. At that point I'd like someone to challenge him more than that. Wagner was running around all game, would've liked to see someone give him a talking to.

Oh definitely a bad timing for doing after the separation and serving 2 minutes and such but we all knew it was coming just from history of those things through the years. Even the refs have to know you stopped the fight and put them where in 2 minutes they will be that close again knew what was coming. It's going to happen.

I just don't trust Neuvirth to play an extended stretch without getting hurt. He is the better option right now though.
- mickel25

if he gets hurt then you deal with it but that is no reason not to play him when he has been the better goalie. If Elliott was playing better then I would say the same about him. they don't have a clear #1 so play the guy who is on top of his game.

Last night we reverted back to being a one line team, top line was great everything after was piss poor. You think of all people Konecny would learn not to play with the puck in those gray areas. Elliot did not deserve that start either. A Laviolette time out was needed last night, too many times we were pinned in our own zone

The thing I hate about the rationale of having too much inexperience on the blueline if Morin is brought up is that they'll be in the same exact position next year with Myers and possibly Friedman. The more time Sam spends in the A is another game missed. He's going to have his growing pains but Id rather let him get through them during the first half of this season than the latter half.

I think last night's tire fire all around might help push them to make the move today to put AMac on IR and call Morin up. I am not saying he plays Thursday or Saturday but they may at least give themselves the option after that mess last night.

I mean I hate how bad Provy and Hagg looked together. They each had been very good before that game and last night was like what the hell!

I don't know if it's just me but it's so hard to watch this team and not want them running all over people. And I think that is because I see all the young players on a team like Toronto and how well they are doing and the jump they made last year and think "Uhhh we're so close to that...but I want that now!"

Elliott was coming off of a good game against Edmonton so I get it to a degree but Neuvirth was really good in LA then sits for 3 games. Gets in again and makes 63/65 saves against NSH and FLA and sits again. Record aside, the bottom line is 1.36 gaa vs 3.33 and .957 save % vs .876. I just want to see the guy playing who is the better goalie at the moment.

Maybe the answer is giving one of the young goalies in the system a chance like Stolarz.

Great idea. If Hextall had any guts, he would put Stolie in tomorrow's game.

I like the young guys the Flyers have, but they aren't on the same level as guys like Matthews and Nylander. Don't hold your breath on seeing this group explode like the one in Toronto. At least on the Forward side.

I believe that MacDonald is unfairly criticized and is a much better player than given credit for by the fan base. However, I don't believe that having him in the lineup last night would've changed much last night. Same with Morin. I understand the physical match up suggestion, but he would've been toast last night also.
- MJL

I pretty much agree with this. AMac is perhaps miss used but I don't think anyone in the stable fits better with Provey than he does RIGHT NOW. The stability that the D has shown was disrupted by AMacs absence and everyone else playing with new partners. I'm not saying the end result would have been different but perhaps a bit less confusion in our own end. Certainly would not have been as ugly.
I'm also not sure that Gudas isn't the odd man out sooner then AMac.
Last night we saw some of Provey, Sanhiem. Ghost and Hagg back together, Sammy and Gudas next game?? AMac slides into Gudas spot when healthy because the top four are great together and Sammy is better than Gudas? Hey part of being a fan is fantasy, right?
Sometimes I just have random thoughts that I throw out for something to talk about that stays hockey related. Yesterday kind of ran off the rails a bit.

Toronto went out and signed a 36 year old dman and a 31 year old dman to anchor their defense. It would be nice if Patrick was as good as Matthews and Konency was as good as Nylander, but as of today, they are not.
