Toronto went out and signed a 36 year old dman and a 31 year old dman to anchor their defense. It would be nice if Patrick was as good as Matthews and Konency was as good as Nylander, but as of today, they are not. - Feanor
Yep Toronto is good on offense and has a goalie that "could" be the real deal. Their defense is a severe point of concern for them. |

He very clearly is one our best defenseman today. I won't argue that anyone should be in over him until at least next season. Manning gudas however... gudas needs to learn to control his emotions you've been around how long? - Tfaehner
Yeah, lets hop on this one for a bit. WTF, you are the D man on a team with 2 rookies, a second year guy, a third year guy and a #7 in the line up and take 7 minutes of really stupid penalties at a crucial point in the game. Don't remember if the Ducks scored while he was off the ice but it didn't help to lose him for the time even if not short handed. |

I definitely understand they are not as good as Matthews and Nylander but I feel that when our young guys get there this team will be scary good. Patrick wont be like Matthews but I would be ok if were like Eichel.
I'm just excited for where this team is going and the selfish part of me wants it sooner than later |

They just sent down Rosen, and Polak took Carrick's spot in the lineup on Monday. Both are aged 23. |

“There are some things he can get better at and it’s with time and I’m sure if was to play in the NHL tomorrow, he’d do fine,” Gordon said. “He’s at the point now where sometimes it’s just getting some NHL games to realize, you know what? I have to do this a little better.” - Scott Gordon

Coming off of the surgeries he has had I do wonder if we won't really see Patrick's real game until next year. Look at Giroux......the difference between last year and this is like night and day |

I don't know how good they are, but Toronto is not some kind of rookie paradise because they made the super obvious decision to play Matthews, Marner and Nylander last year. They also added a 38 year old and a 37 year old to their forwards this season, leaving Kapanen in the AHL. |

They played more than Matthews Marner and Nylander. And I think their fans would be just as upset if Brandon Manning was playing instead of Sam Morin |

I know it's been talked about on here over the last two weeks but the ice has been bad on this short season. NOT a normal condition for a Flyers game. New ice/stadium crew I'm guessing?
I still don't understand how Manning gets the nod over Morin in a game against a team full of monsters. I get that Manning is a tough kid, but he can't compete with the pure mass of Morin. Just didn't make sense for this opponent.
Last night's game, it was apparent the majority of the team was just looking to get the puck off their sticks. I think the top line and Jordan Weal were the only players I saw trying to slow the game down and dictate the pace with puck control.... most of the team was flustered from the outset and was nowhere near as crisp as they can be and have shown capable of this year.
We can point to MacDonald as a stabilizer to the emotions of the D, but that wouldn't account for the Forward Corps as well. The whole team needs to regroup. We're this much closer to my D-preference I'm screaming for!

If we are really honest, while the Flyers (mainly the top line) had their share of scoring chances in the first period, too much of the period was spent in their own end and turning over pucks. That was masked by the 12 blocked shots in the first period but was just a matter of time if they kept going in that direction.
- bmeltzer
It was but you have to work through bad periods and the Flyers did get through the first tied. As it turned out, wheels ended up falling off the wagon in the 2nd. It's been two games now where the first line has really dominated on chances and the others haven't generated as much. Hopefully, this helps:

Great sign for #Flyers: Nolan Patrick on the ice to practice this morning.
The Flyers still need to answer some depth questions up front and they need lines 2-4 generating more the other way. Those lines getting something going is what allows the Flyers to go with their three top forwards on one top line. The D pairings will smooth out with the loss of AMac.

the team sucked, and elliott sucked. a couple i give him a pass, but that's it. he didn't give them a chance to win. he's had one good game so far. take neuvirth out of the equation...he's going to have to be much better if they are going to make the playoffs. i'm very disappointed in his play thus far. very.
i didn't like all 3 pairs being shifted to start this game. if sanheim can be moved to accommodate manning, who was (frank)ing horrendous, then he can be moved to accommodate morin on the left side. i know, i know, i (frank)ing know. 3 rookies, blah, blah, blah.

k clearly I am missing something here. What is your point? That Morin shouldn't be playing because the Leafs signed Roman Polak? |

As much as some would enjoy his being shown the way back to North Dakota nothing short of a full on mutiny by the players will cause it this season. |

I would love to see that as well.
I am surprised to say that AMac was the major effect on the whole thing. The D pairings were a mess from the get go. The quick outlet passes were not happening. The D men were tentative and the forecheck by the
Ducks was fierce. We got out of the first period tied but the writing was on the wall. Between Patrick getting dinged, (hope he is ok) and Gudas gone for 7 minutes, things steam rolled.
