"Honolulu passes law that makes texting while crossing the street illegal.
Pedestrians in Hawaii's state capital who cross a street or highway while using a mobile electronic device can be slammed with a fine of up to $35 for their first offense, according to the law".
I weep for this country.... - gordong
Meh. It's not that big a deal. If people actually looked before they stepped into traffic, it wouldn't be necessary. Alas, people are stupid and they walk out into the street while looking down at their phone. Although, maybe the previous sentence is why your weeping?
I know a few years ago I read that we actually have the 4th-worst pedestrian accident rate in the nation. Part of that is because we have a lot of old people who are bad at crossing streets. But another part is stupid people crossing without paying attention to their surroundings. We can't do much about the former, but maybe this law will help with the latter. |

People don't look even when they're not on their phones. Clueless and think the world revolves around them is a bad combo.

For anyone who's into podcasts, comedy or history check out the podcast The Dollop and their episode "Pedestrianism" about the early days of the automobile and the impact on pedestrians
On the hockey side, I am both excited and nervous for the continuing pair of Fedun and Antipin. |

I'm the only commissioner. But I am using the same stat settings from Gerbe's league, because I like them

That's definitely true. But it does seem like it has gotten worse with the phones.
The pedestrian crossing law that really pisses me off is the $145 ticket for entering a crosswalk when it's entered the countdown phase (between the white walking dude and the red hand). I haven't gotten one because I know to watch out for it, but I've seen tons of people finish crossing with more than 10 seconds left and still get the ticket. It has nothing to do with safety at all. HPD just uses it to generate revenues and give rookie cops something to do. Maybe the point is to give them experience dealing with angry civilians? |

I like how he complains about having to wake up at 9. If I sleep til 9 anymore it's rare. I'm usually up by no later than 8 on the weekends even. - HonkFortheGoose
I’m up for my morning cartoons and workout
I’m running 24 seven like the energizer bunny lol
But unlike most I don’t want to sit in the house at 9 AM or 10 watching a game when I could be on the beach chilling like an eagle

This has no bearing on lawsuits. All the law does is make it so a cop can write you a ticket if he sees you using your phone while crossing the street.
If you run someone over in a crosswalk, you're still getting sued. |

Every municipality has their own thing to generate revenue. Usually it's just speeding where the limit drops by 15 or 20 mph with no warning.
On Niagara St/River Rd along the river in the City of Tonawanda it used to be/still is 55 down to 30 with no warning, and more often than not there's a cop 100 feet into the 30 mph zone just waiting. It's bullpoop. I think now they put up a sign that says "reduced speed ahead" but I'd bet it's to the inch as close as they can put it to where it drops to give people who don't know the least amount of time. |

Pedestrians have the right of way and if they're in a crosswalk you have to stop for them if there's no traffic light or stop sign, or if you're going to turn right on red and they have their signal that says they can cross or if you're turning left without an arrow. There are lots of scenarios where they can sue the ever loving poop out of you if you hit them. |

Just watched the Top10 countdown of best hockey nicknames...
10- Dave THE HAMMER Schultz
9- CAPTAIN SERIOUS Jonathan Toews
8- Maurice THE ROCKET Richard
7- Terry TAZ O’Reilly
6- Mark THE MOOSE Messier
5- Bobby Hull THE GOLDEN JET
4- THE DOMINATOR Dominick Hasek
3- THE GREAT ONE Wayne Gretzky
2- SUPER MARIO Lemieux
1- MR HOCKEY Geordie Howe
Pretty good list
I’d have Gretzky 2nd & move Richard up to 5th
Who’s missing though?
Pavel Bure, THE RUSSIAN ROCKET, came to mind right away
Rob RAYZOR Ray is pretty good, but he wasn’t good enough a player to make it
Throw some more out there

Boy, that Michael Dal Colle is really lighting up the NHL after being taken just 3 spots after Sam...
Sam Bennett too. How did we ever pass on him?
No one is "happy" with Sam's production, but looking at most of the guys taken in the 3 spots after him, only 1 is any good, and Sam is way better than the other 2.
It can always be worse.
The problem is the NHL has been spoiled by McDavid and Eichel and Matthews and even Draisaitl to an extent that it skews our way of thinking on young players and their production. - Wetbandit1
I guess the 2 Sam's and dall colle were the only 3 guys drafted in 2014. I dont care about the other couple busts, Draisaitl looks pretty good.
"If sam was picked 20th we would all think he's great" Problem is we threw away a whole season for him, and he went 2nd. It's a fact.

I don't care about NHL network. I get MSG and NBCSN. That's all I care about. Curiously, I get Nat Geo, but not Animal Planet.
The only thing I don't like is I can't rewind, even when I'm streaming. - Wetbandit1
Look into the HDHomerun tuner and HDHomerun DVR service. You plug the cable into the tuner, which plugs into your network router. You can then stream cable on virtually every device in your home. |

Yeah what the hell does that matter?
Did the Islanders choose Dal Colle over Reinhart?
You don’t think the Islanders will get criticized for picking him over others?
We were the only team with the choice of any forward, and that forward has been awfully mediocre to this point. |

Spot on sbroads. The islander fans can argue on their board about how he's a core guy and I'm not giving up on him. Regardless of his effort |
