The NFL is really complicated with salaries. I have no idea how it all works. I was just reading that we only save $2M next year. The years after it drops. - Wetbandit1
Basically...
All the bonus $$$ from is contract is spread over the length of his contract for Cap purposes
So even though he’s not on our team anymore, when the bonuses are frontloaded like that, that Cap hit from those bonuses he’s received will still affect us
That’s how we still have “dead $$$” from his contract
Where we “save” $$$ is no longer having to pay his yearly base salary or future bonuses

Next year we save $2m on the cap. Then the next three years we save $16.5m, $14.5m and $12.5m against the cap respectively. Also, the 6th rnd pick could turn into a 5th depending on Marcel's performance the rest of the year.
We save over 5 mil this year, 2 million next year and 47 mil between years 19-21
I’ll take the savings in cap space for a player that’s been nothing but avg since he signed that huge deal.
Not to mention we have 19picks in the next two years 12 of which are in the first 4 rounds. And based on this years draft they might actually know how to draft real football players...

The “saved” $$$ is a bit misleading
He will still be on our Cap, just not for as much as if we had kept him here

I think a great way to look at this is can you replace him for 5+2=7 mil over 2 years.... and the answer right now is a resounding yes. After next year we save 47 mil... huge win for us.
Not to mention he is one more mistake from sitting out an entire year. And let’s be honest would you trust that he stays clean for the next year in a city like Jacksonville, when he couldn’t even do it here?

Yeah, I'm not opposed to the trade, just pointing out to those that didn't know we're still on the hook for $14M of $16M next year.
Wish we could've gotten more. They must have really wanted to get rid of him.

Writing was on the wall when we saw what kind of players they want in the building now....
I hope he turns it around and plays well in the future though.
That contract was another blunder move by Whaley, in that he never protected the team based on behavior...

In hindsight, sure, but to let him walk then? No way, they had to pay him.

the fact that dareus was a part time player this year, makes it a good trade
Guys, guys... We're straying too far from accepted topics of hockey and hockey.
Ummm, Okposo isn't a power forward, he can't stay on his skates.
Lenner sucks.
Disco Dan parked the bus a lot.
Tim Murray has ass imprints on his stool at Bada Bing.
Whew. I think we're ok now. - Wetbandit1
See my post about the youngins ..... I rather talk about them... but
Lehner... eh one year who cares, he’s the best we have right now, and it not even close.
Okposo don’t care if he is a power forward but he’s no good if he doesn’t score.... I’m getting concerned.
