Also, I have been reading the blogs and comments since the site started in 2005 and it’s never been about “hockey conversations”. There has always been a contingent of overly opinionated, critical of others, argumentative and oft delusional “fans” present. This generation is no different.

Come on. You think it was this bad 5 years ago? Back then it was fine if anyone criticized a player, a contract, a draft pick/prospect, now that's met with "You're not a real fan!"

I guess people who log into this site, care about this team and watch every game aren't fans now

Thanks vintage!

Don't underestimate hockey's cardio effect. I play once in a while with friends out at UBC and a friend of a friend from California joined us. He was in a roller-hockey league but never played on ice. He could skate but not well.

Sitting next to him on the bench I've never seen a guy sweat so much. He looked at me and said "I've played them all but I've never felt so drained as I do now".

And man did he ever look wrecked. It's a sport that requires everything you've got; stamina, strength, agility, toughness, coordination, balance, vision, etc, etc.

I played a high/competitive level of soccer for most of my life, and also played a bit of everything else through my life. Soccer is the hardest cardio-wise, I think, and hockey is tough as it's more like full body sprints... you don't need the longevity of soccer, but you need the allover explosiveness in short bursts. Probably more like football in that manner.

Although, I recently started swimming, and holy hell that's a completely different thing. I can still run 15km, but can just manage 500m or so of swimming so far.

Yeah, it’s been this bad all along. I went 5 years without giving up my cell number to be able to post (I actually have another account that I can’t post from) because people were having a conversation about what personal issues Rypper was having - when he left the team for a bit. There was a lot of “speculating” and I called two people in particular out for it and was told to “go away new guy”, like somehow because my account had just been created I didn’t know what I was talking about.

Yeah, I'm not denying that some ridiculous things weren't said. The frequency was just much lower.

It's all about soccer in my house right now. My 6 year old has gone all-in on that sport. I thought it was going to be basketball because he's good at it but he started playing soccer last year and he's crazy about it.

I agree about swimming. I was a diver years ago (scuba) and did a lot of work underwater for DFO. It's so unnatural for humans to be in that environment everything about it taxes you. You spend enough time in the water you are completely drained of energy. I've pulled people back in the boat because they just can't get back in. I've had to be pulled back in the boat, it's a strange feeling losing all your strength and energy...

I think you've felt it more than most but I think it's more general frustration with the current canuck situation. Since 2012 many have grown very cynical of the NHL as a whole.

But if people dismissed it or just laughed it off when criticised then it would get a whole lot better in here. It's the hurt feelings that cause so much problems.

Same goes with trolls. Trolls are fun and when you grow tired of them you ignore and they go away.

Everyone should know by now the internet is not a place to go for serious, thoughtful, or friendly exchanges. That's what your friends and family are for. The internet is a cesspool and should be treated as such. Treat the internet like you would Granville Street on a Friday night.

So true. Discussion is maligned by an entitled few that push their pom poms into a negative drama of unwarranted ridicule.

honestly your behavior is not becoming of a ref. You're suppose to end bad behavior not encourage and join in on berating home town posters.

If you miss the hockey talk then why dont you lead by example then? Stick to hockey talk and lead the posters on how to do it. But lately you agenda has been that of knocking on others who vary in the opinions from yours. You allow mockery in here by your island buddies and encourage it all. Shameful behavior by a ref.

- SMBDragon

nah, it wont happen. Then he wont be able to put down others who feel TG has made a change. Really seems to absolutely love doing that

For quote 1: Makita and I were posters first. We can share our opinions and participate on this website just like everyone else. Though we accepted a position to uphold the CoC, that doesnt mean we cannot joke about, disagree or comment on topics in the way we see fit. We are also human and can post irrationally, inappropriately, or potentially offend someone in the same manner as anyone else, though we hold a title of Ref does not mean we have perfect judgement.

For quote 2: I have noticed you are not around as much, and do not expect you to backread every single post but he has been participating and complimented Travis Green, the team, while also citing his concerns about his style. It is comments like these (to all posters, not just those directed to Makita), that have taken everyone to sarcasm, snarl, or lack of engagement. Posters are being put in corners of absolutes and makes it difficult to want to say anything of substance because the effort is often dismissed and a label assigned

Well, good times right up to that whole 'losing the cup' thing. That would have put a damper on the fun.

Mr. Dragon, sir. I am sorry that life at HB isn't as "YOU" like it, and I do not live up to your morals, perception of what a "ref" should be.

I have tried to smooth the waters here regarding you and your posts for years, you seem to have a closed mind where coaching is concerned, because as you put it "only you can see things others can't". Well posts like that will bring a large range of responses, from someone like me that will try to understand how you view your skills over someone that has 3 national coaching certificates and was quite successful in the vocation. To out right mockery from other posters, because the tone of your posts were dismissive, demeaning, and aggressive to others opinions that did not align or bow and praise your outrageous claims.

Do me a favour Sir, do not respond to anything I post, especially if you do not like my view on the players, team, or coaches, you know hockey talk that doesn't align with others opinions.

Cheer up sunshine. Over the years I have a tendency to agree with what you've posted. I have no idea why you were the whipping boy for a while other than everyone gets a turn at some point.

When I first joined I got a rough ride. I survived and have been a model Hockeybuzzer ever since.
