I'd call it the Norris... then award the orr for the most offensive dman and the lidstrome for the moist balanced one... - Pres.cup

Over the years I never really liked Tanev . I thought he was too soft and brought no offense. It is just in the last few months I see his value to Canucks. When I hear of mentorship and protecting young players he is a perfect candidate. He does make his partner better and would be very useful for developing OJ Pouliot Hutton or if we draft a top 5 pick this year.
Canucks seem to be taking a step forward and I think him there teaching would be a better value than a first round return pick? - VANTEL
Agreed, then GUddy gets traded at TDL and we keep Tanev for the term of his contract. Unless our socks get blown off by an offer on Tanev. I am talking something like Marner for Tanev offer(won't happen, just an example) |

Would it harm the rebuild if both Guddy and Tanev are kept? At least until Canucks develop right shot D to replace them? |

I don't think Guddy get's re-signed. Why keep a player that is worth around 3.8m when they will want 4.5m? |

He is having a strong year so not sure what his value is. If he is only a fighter then no. He is looking more like Willie Mitchell this year |

He will get at least 4.5. Salaries are going up every year, 4.5 is his value whether we're the ones that pay it or another team. I'd like to see him stay, I love the snarl he provides. |

I don't have an insight on worth regarding contract versus hockey impact. Guess it depends on a couple factors like term and market value with cap rise.
Though do you toss Guddy over that $700K difference without any prospect replacement?
Maybe a smarter/more knowledgeable poster will opine that it's easy to replace a 3rd pairing RD with a plug UFA. That my query is misplaced because it's better to keep collecting draft picks and make sure team stays bottom 3rd.
Not sure that tact guarantees better development for team and prospects. |

I know players play on the edge but when Pronger used his skate to try and take off Kesler's leg that was too much. I laugh when I see him charge of player safety - VANTEL
Agree it's a joke. I remember when Pronger cross-checked some Detroit player in the face on their run to the cup final with ANA. Didn't even get a 2min penalty if memory serves. There is tough clean hockey and there are jokes like Pronger…Laughable. |

He claims to avoid cap recapture he couldn't play because of concussion. He even claimed he had to stay in a dark room so the NHL hires him while he was still under contract for Flyers. He gets to judge players penalty while employed by Phi |

I think that if he his not signed by TDL or it seems like he may not sign, you ship him out 100%. The problem with keeping him is that we have two fully defensive defensemen in him and Tanev, but no defenseman with the offensive flair to accommodate. Hutton, Stetcher, Del Zotto, Edler, Pouliot none of them are 50-60pt defensemen. We really need that PP1 QB type that can pair with Tanev. |

Agree if he doesn't want to sign to trade Guddy. But that's apart from what you want to sign him for value wise.
Anyway, JB agrees with you too about RD QB. It's on his wish list. Perhaps this draft Canucks can get one of the many D candidates.
It's not likely by trade or free agency a QB D is found as they are a hot commodity. Though that Butcher kid is doing it for Devils now. Stecher hasn't quite developed that and likely stop gap until one is drafted. |

how come there is a selke award for forwards, but not defenseman.
there should be a defensive defenseman award.
i'd call it the lidstrom. - dbot
I've always thought this too. It's always the offensive player winning the Norris... even if he can't play D worth crap.

Man, I don't remember anything positive being said about the canucks after last season let alone anything about Tanev.
I like the player. Never thought he was the cause of any canuck issues. But I never placed him top 10 in the league. I thought the general consensus on here was that he was trade bait.
Now, it's top 10 in the league. Ok, if that's the narrative now, I'll go with it... - bloatedmosquito
His recent appearance for Canada put a big spotlight on him in the media over coaching and teammate comments propping him up as elite. |
