I haven’t watched him much the past couple years...
but it seems like the big plays he used to make have decreased quite a bit
He’s definitely the best we’ve got right now though...
certainly doesn’t hurt to have him here
It's all about the bolded. Edmonton is in Canada, even a mediocre audience in the US is worth more than that. - Wetbandit1
Idk...
are the ratings really gonna be that much worse?
I doubt it
The only hockey fans in the US who would prefer to watch Detroit v Buffalo or Nashville v San Jose are the fans of those teams

Well, if you've got another reason I'm all ears.
It's not like Brady v Manning in the old days when you could expect a barn burner.
These fabricated matchups in hockey suck. Just marketing baloney. I'd rather watch an actual rivalry like Edmonton Calgary, Calgary Vancouver, Toronto Ottawa, Toronto Buffalo, Montreal Boston, Chicago St Louis, Pittsburgh Philadelphia, Rangers Islanders, Detroit Chicago... over one more goddamn Pens Caps game.

I’m baffled
My only guess would be they’re trying to get “fringe” fans to watch & think they can better sell American teams
But I still they’d be better off promoting a matchup like Crosby v McDavid
But Wash vs Pitt is one of the best rivalries in hockey... (why don’t u like it?)
It’s probably THE best right now actually
Just bc Van v Cal (etc) goes back farther,
doesn’t mean it’s better
That’s pretty funny
Not like they spiked the coffe with Pepto or ExLax...
I don’t think it’s even close to on par with actual cheating like “Deflate-gate”
They just brought him up from the A. If he were untouchable, you’d think they would at least have him in the National League.
On the other hand, I don’t know how badly they feel they have to win this year. Maybe they will be patient and stand pat. - Der Kaiser
I think they took a big gamble on some of their other "NHL caliber" defensemen being moved. Theodore is waiver exempt, so he was the easiest to move down to the A while they sorted out a trade, or injuries happened.
Is it sad that i am already just "meh" about this team?
They aren't making teh playoffs, IMO, and its just going to be a blah 10th place season, like we had years before Darcy was fired. Again IMO. - ImThatGuy
It's hard to be positive about them right now, but I am holding out hope that they can figure it out.

Not sad with how they have played but it's going to get much better, playoffs? probably not now. I do however expect to start seeing better games, starting tonight.

They need to be the team that takes advantage of struggling teams, not be one of those teams that is taken advantage of.

The notion that they are after "fringe" fans is fiction. NBC paid $2 billion for this contract. They are going after the sure thing, not experimenting in trying to "grow the game", no matter how much PR lip service they do about it. It will be interesting to see what the next TV deal is worth.
