Not Bloody Likely - VANTEL
Shot differential at even strength. Guddy at -46. Next worst is MDZ at -8 but it only negative when paired with guddy. Not saying give subban a shot, but when stecher is back... maybe gudbranson sits? |

When he finds out how to do a controlled zone exit i will start to warm up to his "leadership" "toughness" and his "intangibles" |

Canucks are generating shots at a insane rate. Scoring chances are waay up too. Shot suppression is also looking good. Goals are bound to happen if they continue these systems. Gudbranson is leaps and bounds are worst d man right now though. Biega and pouliout are running with this opportunity they have been given - Codes1087
This is precisely why I brought up that the ground work is being laid for the prospects with better speed and talent to come in to elevate the team. |

I honestly don't get the worst Dman statement . In the last 5 games the team has given up 7 goals . That is quite remarkable seeing they have two back up goalies. The puck is in the other end just as much or more as it is in our end. One of those goals was a McSoftie. I think the team is playing above what was expected so I am not saying anyone is horrible |

Interesting numbers, and they have there place.
I like Gudbranson, I like the way he makes others pay when in the D-zone, where as Stecher panics and turns pucks over just as bad as the Canucks not being able to hit the net.
I also like Del Zotto and Beiga, Hutton has the worst shot on net, it's definitely more powerful than Tanevs muffin shot but he can't hit the net, even if they increase the nets to soccer size he'll still miss by a wide margin. |

Subban is being healthy scratched in the AHL . The only reason he played last night because of Canuck injuries. |

I hope that people that are applauding the process over the results right now aren't gonna be the same guys who rip on other poster's for bringing up a player's influence on the team's scoring chances and shots, whether it's positive or negative.
You can't just choose to bring up shot and scoring chance differential whenever it sheds a positive light on the team and choose to ignore it when the team is winning despite getting outplayed or when a player you like is on the ice for more scoring chances against him than for.

Guddy will never be a stats darling. That's not how his game works or reason why he plays a role on a team. The key being team which usually means diverse group that brings different elements into what makes it work.
But aren't stats a complimentary tool or do they have to rule out everything else? |

Scoring chances given up, shots given up and denying zone entry by breaking up plays at the blueline is pretty much what a dman is judged on by everyone, including coaches.
I've said all along that I really want this team to have some functional toughness, guys that are good players and can stand up for teammates(not Sestito's and Pedan's). Gudbranson has looked better this year, but he does tend to get caught playing man to man defense when it's probably not the best thing to do at the time and it sometimes results in leaving a man open in the slot/crease area. I think he's been handling and moving the puck better in recent games though.
The other issue is that speedy forwards easily gain zone entry without having to dump the puck in against him. I like his size/toughness for sure and do think he'd shine in playoff games when the refs sometimes put the whistles away, but he has some glaring weaknesses that limit him from being a guy you can trust against top lines like you can with Tanev. |

I agree and these last 2 games have been there best and a few breaks the thread would be talking how good they are. |

I love Guddy. THERE I SAID IT! I think he is underrated and, yet, not a superstar. He is very good. Thats it. I am constantly worried about his hand when he fights.
I think because ---- lets face it ---- he is literally Bieska 2.0, that we expect him to be a great interview and more character-like.

But so was the entire team! I do not think that is a fair comparison.
