It depends on the GM.

If someone loved him his draft year, they might think he still has a big ceiling.

It's the reason we have Zach Bogosian. You never know

- sbroads24

Fair enough...
but until that happens, it makes sense to put Sam in a position to succeed
Imo...
that’s not with wingers like Pouliot & Griffith
Obviously that line combo didn’t work
Keep Pouliot with O’Reilly
Put some talent on Sam’s wing

That could have all 3 lines scoring consistently
Which I think is obviously what we need

it's true, not like I wouldn't explore it but it'd be tough. The guy you get back would almost certainly have "warts"

At some point (which is now) the sabres need to see what Sam can do for other players. Bring them up. Stop complaining about his wingers. Good players make other players around them better. He is not making himself or anyone better. The sabres are clearly trying to see what he can do with out Eichel. His contract will reflect his on ice points, which are inflated by eichel.
Tyrod has made numerous cast off wr's relevant . But you can't see that side of the coin.

How does draft position just go away and become irreverent? Ever? It's a fact, he was drafted 2nd and is not playing like a 2nd overall pick

Draft position goes away because the PLAYER does not pick his own draft position. The TEAMS do. Blame the GM for the draft position, not the player.

He's playing with an AHL winger on his right side and a 4th line center on his left. That's not irrelevant to his production

Pretty funny that O'Reilly suddenly has 11 points in 13 games after his atrocious start. If these guys can be solid, then we can take some chances on shuffling the bottom 6
- jcragcrumple

ROR is the new Satan. Will disappear for 9 games then score 12 points in 8 games then go away for another 10.

I thought he played extremely well last night other than throwing his stick at Domi on the faceoff where Domi then shot it out to center.

why? because of his draft position?? If he was a 3 round pick we would all think he was doing well, if he was a 5th round pick we would all think we hit a home run in that spot.

Also a huge disappointment to the majority of their fan base. Yes, I'm sure he has a few "defenders" as well. Silent Sam's Draft position is what makes him a bust to this point. How is that not relevant? If he was a late pick, expectations would be far lower. He has basically met expectations of a 3Rd or 4th rounder.

I don't think he meant to throw it. I think he tried to poke the puck and had his stick hit just enough by an Arizona player that he managed to drop it. And then Domi shot it out of the zone, which is illegal.

so blame the Sabres GM for picking him that high.. Why blame it on the player?

2 points in last 2 games with those guys. Sam's had other opportunities in his career to impress. He's good with eichel for a couple years, so was girgensons, even foligno played well with eich . Notice how good kane is "now". Jack makes everyone around him better. We need someone else to step up. So far : silent sam is not living up to expectations. And yes when you are picked early, expectations are set higher.

Girgensons-Eichel-Pominville
-Girgs has looked decent in the top6 this year. As long as Jack & Pommer keep scoring, I like him there to help balance the lines

Pouliot-O’Reilly-Bailey
-both the wings have produced when playing with ROR, so let’s keep them in situations where they’re playing well

Kane-Reinhart-Okposo
-KO finally scored last night, but he just hasn’t looked good on the 2nd line for the most part. Kane seems to be productive anywhere, so let’s get this 3rd line consistently scoring

- jdfitz77

Excellent post. IF Housley fails, I'm pushing Fitz for coach.

This actually just seems like the logical conclusion. It's not being done, but looking at the way each player goes about their business...I think this could really turn our fortunes around. I mean hey, we aren't getting much out of the bottom 6...that would at least be a good start towards doing so I'd imagine. Well played sir.

He’s the first forward taken from the draft no I’m not happy with his production especially when more more people are better than him in his draft class

One was the second overall pick one is the seventh overall pick apples and oranges here

one was second overall in a really weak draft

the other was picked 7th in a top heavy draft

it's really not much different but I would have to pull teeth to explain it to you

- homiedclown

How can you even possibly say thats a weak draft now

We tanked for Sam Reinhart we did not tank for nylander
