That's too bad. Missed a good game last night. The new core played really well. Biega sucked. - manvanfan
9 goals have been scored against us in 6 games. The D has been very good even with Edler gone. We have also won 4 of those 6 |

It still makes me cringe watching Hutton on the first PK unit. Edler is still needed. |

I think he should stay over there for two years, he'll be that much better when he gets to Vancouver. |

That's because the forwards have the puck more, they don't sit back like they did under the Willie system. |

Edler is still the teams best defenseman, he's just played way too many minutes over the past three years because they had no one else except Tanev. Probably why Tanev is hurt so much as well. |

I know I have said this for years and the same holds true about the forwards being better with the D helping out in the other end. Classic example Brock's third goal. Tanev saves it at the line but does not get a point.
They are playing as a team |

Imagine if they had skilled players, stick with the process. I remember when I went to Shawnigan Lake to watch the young guys training camp a few years ago, I said back then Boeser was a cut above any other kid they had out there, you're seeing that today.
They were really lucky to get him where they did, a great pick by Benning, his only great pick to date
Some other kids look promising but have yet to prove they're in that category. |

Quick check. Tanev is playing the same amount as every season since 13-14. It's only a matter of time. Except his shot blocking is down almost 1 entire shot per game.

He has to learn the ice, speed, physical part of the game in NA. He's scoring at the highest draft +1 rate in the SHL ever. He will be here at the end of his SHL season. |

A lot of points fly right over your head (I didn't mean that in a mean way)
The point was Tanev's averaged 21 minutes a night and Edler 24 because they haven't had a lot of help in the way of talent. If they had their minutes down around 18 or 19 where they should be Edler would be better because he wouldn't be exhausted and Tanev might not get hurt as much.

That's fine, I still don't think they should rush him, a lot of great players stayed over there for a few years before they came over. Peter Forsberg for one, he stayed in Sweden for three years and still had a HHOF career, Nick Lidstrom two years before he came over and had a HHOF career. Marcus Naslund two years. There's no rush! |

Wow, thanks for pointing out the obvious. I got it the first time. I just didn't acknowledge something everybody knows.
Anyways yes, If Edler was playing a second pairing minutes he probably would be more effective. Tanev isn't going to play any less. |

They've needed a true number one dman for a long time. That'd take so much pressure off Edler, a little late for that now I guess.
By the time the Canucks are good again Edler will be gone. |

Cheeky, I meant Stanley Cup good, like 2011 good. - LeftCoaster
That year was just a different team then previous, no lead was safe for the other team. They were awesome. If OJ can become a top 4 at least a 30 point D man. EP with his skill. |

Ya they were good, a number one dman and someone to play with Kesler and they might have won
Anyways, Juolevi can be an Ohlund type guy but the organization still needs a #1 guy back there. Like Muzzin and Doughty, Pickles and Burns & Seabrook and Keith. We're missing our Doughty, Burns and Keith. |

Pick your poison. Pitt has done it without a true #1 two years in a row. They have 2 generational forwards. Van can't even win a draft lottery.
I don't think there is any real recipe. |

I know Letang was out last year but he's definitely a number one. Two generational forwards can make up for that though. |

Letang 3rd round pick 62OA.
Keith 2nd round pick 54OA
You just never know. Hopefully JB makes us proud!
Just shows you play to win and not worry about tanking. |

that's two players! It doesnt show you anything about tanking, its one piece of a big puzzle. But yes it seems you don't have to draft a #1 dman high in the draft, forwards on the other hand is a different story. Tanking is still a viable method in rebuilding.
It netted Benning Juolevi and Pettersson with his end of the year tanks the past two years. |
