turris was part of their core. he was their first line center ffs.

To assume Ottawa lost the trade now is ridiculous. They are the team that walked away with the best player in the trade without a doubt. Now only time will tell on if Duchene performs better, which he should, given he will get to play with much better players on the Sens and with a team that has a way better coach. Also, he starts from fresh and will have something to prove.
Losing Hammond was a blessing in disguise. He was way overpaid and was going to get outplayed by Hodberg in the AHL just a matter of time. That created cap space to resign Duchene for a long term deal. The first round pick is not a high pick and is not projected to be a good draft year. Whomever you'd get probably wouldn't end up playing top 6 minutes anyway. The 3rd rounder is a crap shoot, that's just a chip to sweeten the pot and giving it away doesn't compromise jack for the sens. I think all teams benefited equally from that trade. No team traded players from their core, unless they asked to be traded or unless it meant an immediate upgrade as a return. Now Ottawa has a #1C and this hole discussion of Turris not being a number one centre goes to bed.
I am excited to see Duch play for the first time in a Sens Jersey, knowing well he was added there without compromising the future of the team. Immediate rewards, not sacrificing futur... I gotta say smart move by Dorion. I am becoming a huge fan of his management skills. He's an upgrade over Murray no doubt about it.
