Kane is an asset, similar to a natural gas well.
The pegulas are business people
You can't just let an asset go, that's a business decision.
Kane wasn't wanted , contending teams do not need the baggage. He's playing great, but:

He has lockroom issues
Off ice issues
Injury concerns
Makes pretty big $, especially with the 2/3 years left when the trouble started.
